It's 2009, why are people so g'd stupid? And, no, "They're from Illinois" isn't an excuse.
Quote:
A mother who allegedly tried to drown
her baby in a toilet was allowed to take her child home with her from the hospital after the attack, authorities said.
Police argued that Elyse Mamino, 23, of southern Illinois in the United States, put her baby daughter face down in the toilet and held her there, gasping for air and kicking her legs, during the attack last November.
The baby was rushed to hospital and survived.
But despite the angry protest of officers, she was then released into her mother's care in December.
No explanation was given for why child protection workers believed the child would be safe in her mother's care.
'What more of a helpless victim can you have than a newborn infant?' Columbia Police Chief Joe Edwards said during a press conference yesterday. 'This is a very disturbing case.'
The child remained under her mother's care until Mamino was arrested last week. She has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

Oh Lord, Oh Lord, give us strength. So many people just don't make sense... There are people who are decent and desperate for jobs, but an insane woman was an assistant teacher?
