Today, I was working on introductions with a class of 9 and 10 year olds...
First we went over the basics, "Hello, how are you?"

Then, since I figured that Koreans are always trained to speak to friends and older people differently, I taught them a little slang...

So all day now, I've got little kids running up to each other and giving the one hand shake, one hand pat on the back hug and saying, "Hey, what's up?" and the other replies, "It's all good."

Cutest thing in the world.

But only fly white guys say 'hey, what's up' and 'it's all good' these days.

I sure hope 10-year-old Koreans don't start coming up to me saying, "What's up?" Make sure they know in which situations to use slang. And don't make them start calling you, "cracker" and talking about their "cribs"

...........it does sound cute though..........

I go around to Koreans going yojum oddae which is the equivelent of whats up. Definantly make sure they know the context but sounds like a bit of fun.

I thought this one was a little more family friendly, my 2 before these were a lot more frightening. I think he looks a little bit mischeivious.

Flash back to my first hogwon job back in 96- my first day I am sitting in the hall (it was break time) and a little 7 year old boy gets too close to another little 7 year old girl. I almost jumped out of my shoes when I heard her say "HEY! Backup homie!"

I knew then it was going to be an interesting 12 months!

I have this wild urge to wack him across the noggin with a boiled squid.
If he was in my class he would have long since joined the regular group I confine gagged and duct-taped to the far corner before i commence teaching.

Teach them "I GOT IT" or "I GOT IT, I GOT IT" when they understand something.

I hate that 'do you understand?' 'yes i understand' thing..

I still don't quite understand "It's all good." Guess it means "Everything's fine." or a way to sound pleasant. Like automatically saying "fine" to how are you? I was just being polite and don't actually give a crap how you are doing. Wink
