I was wondering if anyone here has worked for GEPIK in Ansan. If so, how was it? or any information you may have heard from other people
Thanks
edit: more specifically Ansan Choji elementary school
Thanks for the reply!

depends on the school, not Gepik and not even Ansan.
there was a job opening at a HS there not too long ago and it seemed like a nice gig, I corresponded with the guy who was leaving for a Uni job and he said he was treated well and didn't have to desk warm during vacations, for e.g. etc.
i think there is a Facebook community of teachers there, and also a yahoo group (waygooks in Ansan methinks) . those are probably better places to ask your question(s) and some people may even be familiar with your school.
never lose track it's always about the school (meaning your Principal and VP), not the city, not GEPIK, not even the physical school building (because if a new Principal comes in, and he/she decide to be dicchs

my edit to your edit.
everything I said in my first post PLUS, just remember that the GEPIK contract is just a general guideline, AND if necessary, posts guidelines that canNOT be crossed (to your detriment) by your employer(s).
that doesn't mean your situation cannot be BETTER than set in the contract - I don't mean in terms of pay, but specifically first and foremost deskwarming during school vacations. This way your 3 day Gepik proscribed vacation effectively turns into something like 9-10 weeks (assuming the customary 1 week "Englishee camp") during summer and winter vacations)
in the situation/school I mentioned, that guy didn't have to deskwarm - and that to me will always be a dealmaker/dealbreaker. However, keep in mind this is always ultimately at the discretion of the school's principal (at the time, as they rotate, you know) |

oh I forgot.
common sense suggestion?
ASK for contact info of the current FT who is leaving and correspond with him/her and find out firsthand from another Westerner what the deal is!!!!!
I did that with my current gig (my first in Korea) and it made up my mind re choosing between several options. All I can say is that that was one of the better decisions I've ever made. |
