I'm just curious if this happened to anyone else.

At my school's opening ceremony this week, the speakers were the principal, the vice-principal, dr. kang (president of our middle school/high school/college organization), the school minister, the alumni association president (who is the publisher of the city newspaper), and...me.

I smiled, said my ninety seconds or so, bowed, and sat down. There were 1000 students and a few hundred parents and guests present.

I still think it was quite odd that I was the only faculty member to speak.

I'm not that new here (a few months), and the school places importance on me and my classes, but I was quite honored!

Did this happen to anyone else?

I have a fair compromise worked out dress-wise here.

I usually teach in sweaters/knit shirts, but I'm given warning on when to dress more formally.

Therefore, I'm dressed up when I have to be, and comfortable (yet still professional) the rest of the time.

I spoke at the school festival. Also I did a poem for graduation but they televised it to all the classrooms instead of having it in the gym like a normal person. So I recorded it then they played it with lyrics, like noraebang.
