I wouldn't take any flights out of SK until after they shoot their threatened missile off - take a boat to China or Japan

It might be a good thing.. (sorry about the innocent people who will perish)

however - the younger generation of Koreans have been brainwashed into believing that the North is their friend and that the US is the enemy..

so let the North commit some terrorism like this - just to give a wake up call to younger South Koreans.

The fact that North Korea announced a "far-reaching target to open the gate to a thriving nation" in 2012, the centenary of the birth of late "Great Leader" Kim Il-sung - seems like a complete joke..

Norths logic - (lets blow up another South Korean passenger plane in 2009 and open the gates to our thriving country in 2012)??

once again its election time this month in the North - and quite a few things are supposed to be happening this month (US/south military exercises, supposed launch of the norths projectile, etc etc) - should be an interesting month.

They won't even blink an eye. Korean media would probably be instructed to not make a big deal out of it.

I wonder what NK would have to do to get media press? Use their tunnels of aggression, level all the hagwons and schools and then have the North Korean flag rise up over City Hall?

Their last missile test didn't go so well (crashed 2 miles after launch).

I bet this test the missile goes straight up, stop, and hits the flippin launch pad!

I am not a big fan of the Norks (obviously), but I think the western press is putting a bit of a spin on this.

The statement that I read said that [sic] the North Koreans could not guarantee the safety of any aircraft that overflies its airspace. Given that the ROK and the US are staging military drills, the North will go to a higher state of alert...just as the ROK/USFK would do if the North staged a huge military drill.

They did not say "We are going to shoot down commercial airliners".

They *do* have the right to protect their own airspace, do they not?

Yes, I think no one would dispute that. Now what is or isn't their airspace could be a point of disagreement. For instance, the North Korean doesn't acknowledge some of the maritime boundaries with South Korea. What's not to say that they don't suddenly start contesting what is or isn't their airspace. Hopefully the airlines keep their planes far enough out until this whole mess is over that it will all blow over.
