Hiya
I have an interview phonecall tomorrow night for a teaching slot at So-Ha Elementary School in Gwangmyeong. Any chance for a bit of thought/advice from anyone who knows the school or visited/worked the city? The city's official website is VERY new and the school's website is in Korean only...
Cheers,

Where in Gwangmyeong?
I live in Cheolsan-dong and I really like it. Everything I need is here (big grocery store, gym, Hi-Mart, movie theatres, cosmetic shops, etc). Very easy and quick to get into Seoul (30 minutes to Sinchon or Gangnam) Tons of restaurants and bars. People are really friendly. Walking distance to Anyang stream for jogging/walking.
Sorry, don't know the school though.
Feel free to ask any specific questions. |

It's good in that it's extremely close to Seoul. That area is a little less convenient than it may look, but still not bad. |

Gwangmeyong doesn't have much of its own "scene" as it's kinda absorbed by Seoul. Like most parts of Seoul proper, for nightlife you may have to get on the subway and spend anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes to get to a preferable "hot spot". But it's VERY convenient, everything you need in a tiny area (they also have hiking trails and a freshwater mountain spring in Haan Dong). Much of Gwangmyeong is literally in walking distance of Seoul. And it has its own KTX station. It's a'ight. |

Thanks for that!!!
I just spoke to the teacher i'd be working with and she was really sweet. She did say that I would be the only Foreign teacher there...is that a bad sign? Plus she mentioned that the studio i'd be placed in isn't that nice but I could possibly move out after a few months, depending on the school manager....are our 'standards' like korean standards regarding cleanliness, in other words, should I be worried??
( I sound very green don't I...)
Look forward to hearing from all of you, who are already there!!!

I know this is an old post, and this may never get read- but in the off-chance you set this up to receive alerts, I'll give this a try.
I just moved to Gwangmyeong, and don't really know anyone. Like you, I'm the only foreign teacher in my school.
I'd PM you, but haven't posted enough for that privilege. Anyway, if you'd like to meet up for a cup of coffee or a beer sometime, my email address is in my profile.
