I've heard that Korean Hagwons are generally dissorganized and do everything last minute. I've finally found a school, I've pretty much all but signed on the dotted line. However, my more recent communication with the school (ie. questions re: contract, housing, teachers emails) seems to take forever to get back to me on things....Is this a dissapearance act or are they generally slow to get back to you at this stage of the game. Just wondering if I should rebegin the search.

I found in Korea that MOST things were done rushed at the very last second not only in hakwons.

Think about waiting a bit more....this next week is one of the biggest holidays of the year (Lunar New Year). That's 3 "red days" on the calendar, so they might not get back to you until the last week of January. Just a thought as to the time it might take.

Hello, 2 Cute N Canadian!

When I apply at a school that decides not to hire me,
sometimes they ignore my inquires rather than saying no.

Perhaps you should apply at other schools in the meantime.

I've seen some of your threads before. Somebody probably already gave you this advice, but if not here goes again: Korea is in many ways not for the faint of heart. You have to accept that. I'm a tough, older, thick-skinned, independent, miserable SOB, but I don't mind admitting that the place has gotten to me more than once. If you wait around for the "perfect" set-up, you might still be looking a year from now. Here's my advice:1. If you really ARE serious about working here, do what hundreds have done & come over as a tourist, get a feel for the country, check out companies in person and if you get a job, do the visa run. 2. Realize that if you want to "play it safe", then w/planning you can go that route. For example, the English Program in Korea(EPIK) has more than its fair share of shortcomings, but it will basically set you up & it's willing to hire non-certified teachers(though at a lower pay scale). You can only join once a year, though, which means you wouldn't start for another 7 months. Go to their website. 3. Japan? If you have no teaching experience you'll really find it tough to get a decent first job. You can try to get on JET or go w/the "evil big 4" eikaiwa(see Japan job info journal at Dave's).
If you're serious about Korea, and don't want to keep waiting, take a deep breath and take the plunge & get over here. Scary? Yep, but that's part & parcel of the whole deal!

Sounds like to me you ask them too many questions. They don't have the time to answer them or they don't want to be bothered.

From reading your posts, you ask alot of questions anyway.

Take the leap and find out for yourself. Get knowledge by experience.

Educate yourself by reading and posting on this board like you've been doing.

I agree they probably thought you were asking too many questions. But then again I think I would have saved myself a lot of grief by not asking any questions and just coming over blind.

I will offer you one piece of advice, things here do change. The school that you sign up to now will be different from the one you will (hopefully) finish at this time next year.

Try and get as much info as possible but in the end realise that you can ask as many questions about the dinner as you like but the only way your going to know what it tastes like is if you eat it

You guys are all probably right. I ask too many questions but I just wanted to be certain as to what I was getting into. I did mention with my questions that I loved the job, the area, the contract etc...that by no means were my questions a decision making factor. Regarless of the answers I was set to sign. I just wanted clarification.....back to the drawing board...

That's what I keep telling myself. I received information regarding an incedent that had occured at another branch. I then was discussing this incedent with another friend of mine who had worked in Korea. As it turns out, he recognised the story and was able to confirm it as it happened to his friend. So maybe....just maybe....someone's watching out for me...I hope I find a job Crying or Very sad
