| Dropped a 25 lbs barbell on the left foot yesterday. X-rays show a small hairline fracture on the top of my foot (no toes broken). Any ideas on the healing time? The Korean doctor put me in a moonboot (removable cast) but didn't share any info. on actual recovery time. |

| Pm Dr. Love. I would say 6-8 weeks. But take care. |

You lucked out. I broke a metatarsus in my right foot clean through back in July. Spent 3 1/2 weeks in the hospital, a like time on bedrest at home, and a couple of weeks on crutches.
Whatever you do, don't disregard the doctor's instructions! |

| Keep the cast on as much as possible, even at home when you think that you'll be fine without it. Good odds you'll be fine in 6 weeks. |

| Apparently aggressive icing and elevation of the foot accelerates healing time? 6 weeks sounds like an eternity! Thanks for the comments... |

| Icing and elevation won't do much for a brake. I guess it would help bring down swelling but not for healing a fracture. |

I broke my arm in two places over the Lunar New Year weekend while skiing.
I know it's a different part of the body and probably has different rules, but my doctor had me in a splint for 3 weeks.
Still have the sling for another 2-3 weeks, but switched to heat packs and very gentle movements.
Maybe try getting a second opinion....
Hope you feel better soon... |

It depends on how fast you heal, so your doc prolly didn't say for that reason. On Dec 29th, I fractured the thickest part of the radius (the inner bone of my arm) bad enough to require surgery. The upper cast was removed after two weeks, the bottom half and sling after four, the pins removed two weeks thereafter.
'K, mine was the arm, but your hairline fracture should heal sooner, if you keep it in the cast. Don't make the mistake as a friend of mine had, who walked on it. As someone said above, follow the doc's instructions. |

| I fell at school on December 1, and fractured my kneecap and elbow. I went to two different doctors, and both told me that there was no need for a brace of any kind. ??? I would have felt much better having it stabilized. They did give me medicine though. (Again with the ??? antibiotics help heal a fracture???) It wasn't until maybe last week that I could walk without any pain. I still can't kneel though. So, my recommendation would be to keep the brace on!!! I know it really stinks having that kind of injury in Korea, where you have to walk everywhere. Good luck! |

Quick update... aggressive icing, compression wrapping, elevation, and 'han-yak' (deer antler herb juice) perhaps is the magic formula? Swelling is down, discoloration is near gone, and I'm getting back some range of motion.
Still can't bear weight but feeling optimistic about the healing time... |

Good to hear!
At some point, as I recall, you should change tactics
from icing and compression to heat and allowing free circulation.
Still keep off it as much as possible for a while. |

| Exercise is good, you don't want your muscles to atropy. Prolly your foot is stiffer in the morn, more flexible as the day progresses. Don't push it. |
