Have you thought about goshiwons? (They are tiny rooms with a bed, desk and TV; kitchen and bathrooms shared.)

I am currently in a goshiwon and I have been for the last three months. For the first month it wasn't too bad, the second was over it and this third month I have been exhausted. I realised that it is because there is just no place to really relax. On the flip side I know people that can handle it for year long contracts.

It is okay for short term but long term I don't recommended it.

here is a link for goshiwons

I don't suggest a goshiwon. There was one in Suwon I visited which claimed to have a shower area in each room as opposed to other goshiwons. I had to go on a waiting list for it. I assume in Seoul it would be much more difficult.

However, if you really want to look into it, here are the cheapest ones I found http://jadarite.wikispaces.com/seoulinfo

well woosong were only going to offer me 2.1m with not much prospect for much overtime but free accommodation and this position pays 2.5m + 100k which is 500k more than woosongs offer and overtime available (pagoda)

So, I thought what the heck, they are going to pay the key money anyway and 500k difference makes up for the accommodation. like that really. why? how much are you on then? most offers on here for korea are 2.1-2.5m. I dont see any jobs advertised over 3m at all in fact.

wow they are cheap. So why do people live in studios then? I guess most peeps are on free accommodation with their contract. Do you have to pay keymoney for a goshiwon? 2.5m salary from pagoda isnt bad is it? plus 100k towards rent makes a minimum of 2.6m a month....is this ok to live on and save about 300 per month if you go careful, eg by living in a goshiwon?

You would be a fool if you couldn't save 300 Pounds per month with a salary of 2.1 million and free accommodation .... I save far more than that and support a wife ....

but 2.1m won is only 948 on xe.com

1000 a month wouldn't go far in England. Still havin said that, you could get by quite well on it if you were living rent free I suppose. Whether you would spend only 700 of it and save 300 is another thing though, esp if you ran a car and went out drinking every weekend. dont forget the kebabs at the end of the night too lol.

so how much do you save a month then?

infact let's work it out.

say eat out twice a week (curry and sunday lunch Wink) @ 20 each=160/mo

food per week from supermarket say 40 a week= 160/mo
couple of beers a night @ 2.80/pint=56/month (that's based on 5 nites)
council tax 100/mo
utilities 50/mo

travel 100/mo (public transport) more if car.

so altogether a basic living will cost 626/month

If you drink more than 2 pints or run a car or eat out more then it will be more and I think a lot of people will burn up an extra few hundred quid on one thing or another.

I get 2.4 and a free rent that is worth (450000) so I get 2.85. Not sure why you would want 2.6 and have to find your own place. I also get the feeling that you will need to teach 30 classes or more a week?

up to 40 before OT I believe. There should be labour laws to stop them doing this however as it's much too many really. Still, it's the only position I've been offered so far

eating out korean 50,000 month western 1-200,000 month
food from the supermarket 40,000 won = 160,000won
couple of beers a night 3000 won = 120,000 won/month
utilities (none in a goshiwon) 40-200,000/month
travel 30,000 won /month
weekends 200,000 month

so thats about 6-800,000 won you will go over budget so say a cool million, that still leaves you with 1-1.5 million won a month 450-650 pounds a month
