the national sidewalk inserts in itaewon.

if uve been there u know what im talking about. first of all, who thought this was a good idea?? "hey! lets show our respect for other countries by walking on them, occasionally spitting on them, and rubbing our dog poo stained shoes on their national flags!"

i saw an adjoshi today purposely walk out of his way to take an extra step or two on the Japanese one. how do u think that makes tourists feel? ive seen others spit on it and put out their cigs on it.

also, there arent any middle eastern countries, though quite a few of those nations r heavily represented by arab and persian waegooks living in or near itae. even if there were though, the bottom of the shoe is the greatest insult to those cultures, so im sure it wouldve met with protests. im sure someone thought of that. but if its not good enough for them, why is ok to walk all over most of europe?

and the American one doesnt have hawaii or alaska. those two combined make up over a 1/3 of our total land area. thats having 30% of our country not represented on a map of only our country. its bad enough i always have a number of students that think hawaii and alaska r separate countries that dont belong to america. i wonder how the kims would feel if i made a map of korea minus jeju, ullongdo, and dokdo?

and i think the UK one doesnt show northern ireland.

anyone else with me on this or am i just bored and starting $h!t for no reason?

You are starting shit for no reason.

There is a Korean plaque. What about the stars on Hollywood Blvd.--are those disrespectful, too?

I think you're trolling or neurotic. Either way, please tell me: what else are you pissed off about?

im not pissed about it, it just seems ridiculous to me, and on top of everything, they couldnt even do it right. there r tons of ways this could have been done better (putting them in the walls of some buildings, naming streets after countries, hanging flags, building an international monument or statue of some kind) it was just some funny observations i had about the whole thing.

and if it wouldnt be considered disrespectful why have some koreans gone out of their way to desecrate the japanse tile? obviously it means something. knowing how nationalistic the kims r, i wonder how they would feel if i spat on theirs, purposely walked over to stomp on it, or made sure to stop and drop my cig on and crush it out with my foot? i'd probably be assaulted on the spot.

it just feels uncomfortable to me. whenever im there, i make it a point to not step on any of them unless is too crowded and theres no other choice. also, why arent there any persian or arab national tiles?.... it would be offensive to step on them, thats why.

im not angry about it (if u do want to see some stuff im angry about i can make u a list) this just seems like a stupid idea, that even if done correctly wouldve been ignorant, but they couldnt even get this right. every time the kims have a shot at representing themselves to the world they always find a way to screw it up. if it were television, soko would be a sit com where the characters always try to come up with some grand scheme that looks good on paper, but by the end of the show its fallen to pieces and created problems rather than done anything good.

Agreed, it was a basic good idea, but was done totally wrong by the dog eaters. Sounds like the story of this whole country.

Man, you need a trip home to relax.

Flags of nations on a sidewalk....no big deal. trust me.

You slagging off Korea and going on and on about how they can't get anything right is about 100X worse than Koreans putting some flags on the sidewalk in an international community.

And, what the F was your comment about Alaska and hawaii? jesus christ man. Who cares if they leave alaska and hawaii off a map? blah blah blah 1/3 of our land... are you joking? It's Alaska! No one lives there! It's like Canadia for god's sake. It gives us oil, we give it oil workers and prostitutes.
