The Magnificent Bastards are back!

After more than a decade, Faith No More is together again. They've got dates in June at the Download Festival in England. Whether they'll record anything new is not official yet, but they've announced shows in the UK and Germany. I have it on good authority that they'll then be heading to South America, Australia, New Zealand and Japan (!!!). This is terrific news from a terrific band, and was rumored but not anticipated due to the well-documented lack of closeness among the band members, and the fact that the bastards have been busy (for example Roddy with Imperial Teen, Mike Bordin with Ozzy, and Mike Patton with his many caffeine-fueled insanities). There are few things I'd seriously consider leaving my job over, but a Faith No More tour date in Japan is one of them.

Quote:
Faith No More has always stood out as some sort of unique beast; part dog, part cat--its music almost as schizophrenic as the personalities of its members. When it all worked, it worked really well, even if the chemistry was always volatile. Throughout our 17years of existence, the mental and physical energy required to sustain this creature was considerable and relentless. Though amicable enough, when we finally split, we all followed paths seemingly destined to opposite ends of the universe.

Yet during the entire 10 years that have passed since our decision to break up we've experienced constant rumors and requests from fans and promoters alike. Nevertheless, for whatever reason, none of us kept in regular touch, much less to discuss any possibilities of getting together.

What's changed is that this year, for the first time, we've all decided to sit down together and talk about it. And what we've discovered is that time has afforded us enough distance to look back on our years together through a clearer lens and made us realize that through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact that we might have actually done something right.

Meanwhile we find ourselves at a moment in time with zero label obligations, still young and strong enough to deliver a kickass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present. And so with this we've decided to hold our collective breaths and jump off this cliff....
BACK, GOD FORBID, INTO THE MONKEY CAGE!!!

We can only hope that the experience of playing together again will yield results erratic and unpredictable enough to live up to the legacy of FNM.
Who know where this will end or what it will bring up...only the future knows. But we are about to find out!

FAITH NO MORE are:
Mike Bordin, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould, Jon Hudson and Mike Patton

Agreed, that's good news

I remember when FNM supported us on the Use your illusion tour. Great guys. They had to be, because we had our problems and were real assholes much of the time.

Humble of you to admit that. Perhaps Mike Patton would like to take back all of the nasty things he said about you. (More likely not.)

By the way, some of us had tickets to the show in Vancouver primarily to see Faith No More (thinking that Metallica and GnR were nice bonuses), but then you, Axl, didn't show up. Some people said the venue cancelled the show due to other considerations, such as a potential inability to control the fans. However many others insisted that you were either in the air that evening, or outright stayed in L.A. Most of the media attention in the wake of the show's cancellation was justifiably focused on the Vancouver GnR fans and their subsequent rioting, but we FNM fans deserve an explanation for not being able to see our favorite band's Angel Dust set.

So, what happened with you on that fateful night sixteen years ago? What say you Axl?

I was at the FNM - Metallica - GNR show in Montreal where James Hetfield's hair and arm caught on fire in one of the pyrotechnics on stage, after a few songs, and then, after a crazy 2-hour wait, Axl walked off stage after a few songs with an "Eff you Montreal!" and mic 'thud'.

There was a riot, with multiple fires, overturned cop cars, destruction of property in the millions. They even shut down the Metro (subway) because of rioters causing damage. Tear gas was used. It was ugly.

The FNM-Metallica-G'N'R tour was by far the best stadium tour I've ever been too, even looking past a 45 minute fit that Axl threw in the middle of their set.

A show that starts at 7 and ends at 3 or 4am as a 15 year old was exhausting but brilliant.

I was never a big fan of Faith No More, but I used to love a lot of Mike Patton's other stuff. Mr. Bungle was/is (who knows) awesome.

Great news about FNM. Mike Patton is one of my favorite frontmen, and they put on a great show. Not to hijack, but this thread made me think about another band back together, Alice in Chains. Of course it will never be the same without Layne, but Jerry Cantrell wrote always the leader of that band.

Right. I was pissed at the lame-ass security and people throwing crap at us onstage. You can't blame me for the riots. Montreal folks need to get a freaking grip (and St Louis). It's only rock n roll, eh? Laughing

Anyway, we went on stage hours late a lot. A man's got to finish his dinner, right?

I remember them doing some shows with Phil Anselmo and Maynard Keenan respectively on vocals, but I didn't know they were back....as in....actually back! Nifty.
