I know this information has been posted already, but Dave's search function isn't working--how unusual.

I need to get a new criminal record check from America, but I'm in Korea. My state won't give a CRC without a notarized letter authorizing someone else to get it, and I don't have access to a notary here in Korea. Also, I have no idea how I could access a fingerprint card or take fingerprints for the FBI check.

How do people get this background check from Korea? I've read the thread about authenticating from Korea, but no one mentioned how to get the check in the first place. Anyone, preferably American, have experience with this?

I used the first 2 numbers before. I got a background check to Korea in less than a week from start to finish with notarization and apostille from the time I called. It took a credit card and 10 minutes of my time. The total cost was 85$ I think 50 of that was 2 day mail. So if you're not in a hurry, you could pay a lot less.

Well, I got mine when I was in Thailand. The process is the same. I got mine from Maryland. I gave them a call. They mailed out a couple of finger print cards. Then, someone shipped me the cards. I went to a police station. I had two sets done in case they screwed up the process. I mailed them back to the appropriate place in Maryland. They mailed the document back to my family. My family then dropped in in the mail to the Sec. of State for the apostile. It was then finally mailed to Korea.

Missouri doesn't require finger prints.

They require a social security number.

They physically go to the highway patrol office and submit an application to get your cbc which is notarized by the highway patrol people. They go back the next day, get the document and then cart it over to the state capital down the street. Then they send it express mail (or however you want) directly to Korea or anywhere in the world. Since it doesn't matter what state your cbc comes from (There is no place on any of your e-2 application for a home address.), it makes sense to go the cheap and fast route. I've done it twice.
