I am looking for a cheap trip out of korea for a few days. I looked at airfare and saw that Yantai is the cheapest (only 100k)

Has anyone been?

I looked on Wikipedia, and it looks pretty sedate and unexciting.

I've been there. It is as you described it, but there is a pretty cool castle type thing built on the cliffs. Anyway, for a hundred bucks, I'd go! There's lot's of cheap beer and Chinese food, if you're into that kind of thing!! ...I am.

....that being said, I would only go if you are NOT one of my fellow Americans. The reason for that...

your cheap airplane ticket = 100K but,

your Chinese visa = 150K (or around there)

That's 250K before you even get started!

One more thing, just in case you're new here.

If you see a flight advertised in Korea for 100K, expect to also pay 100K in taxes, fuel surcharges, etc.

omg... really? I didn't realize that the visa cost was so high.

Are there visa costs to Thailand / Malaysia / Philippines?

You don't need a visa for the Philippines, at least not the last time I went. Not sure about Malaysia Thailand.

China charges Americans a whopping $130 per American tourist on a 30 day visa! Why so high? I thought China would be a bit more lenient on Americans as America is it's main trading partner and creditor.

China is not this expensive for non-American tourists who get 60 to 180 days depending on nationality.

Hey, do they charge $130 for a made in China individual who is an American citizen? LOL

No costs for Malaysia & Thailand either (short term visiting of course).
