Seoul is funny. In a western country, if I needed something in a western country, I'd just go to Wal-mart, and 99% if the time, they'd have it. Here on the other hand, you need to know what's what.

I am trying to find some things in Seoul. Point me in the right direction. I've been searching for over a month now, and I can't find anything. Here's my shopping list:

#1 welders goggles. You know, like, goggles that you wear welding. Nothing fancy. A decent pair usually runs about $30 back home. But here, who knows? I can't even find them.

#2: Lab Coat. Generic, white lab coat. Like the kind you wear if you are working with things that you don't necessarily want to get on yourself. Preferably with a high collar. In fact, I might be looking for a chef's coat.

#3: Peristaltic Pump. You'll want to wikipedia that, because I can't explain it. It's the kind of thing you use if you're working with something you don't want to come into contact with the inside of your pump. Anything flammable, corrosive, stinky or sticky. Feel free to recommend anything else that fits this bill.

#4 Automotive battery charger. You know those trickle chargers like they have at Canadian Tire? Yeah.

#5 Glassware, medical tubing, flasks, stoppers, etc.. If a place sells one thing, they probably sell lots of things. Chemistry supply stuff, basically.

#6 is less of a product and more of a service. I need a zipper. Like, I've got these motorcycle boots. They're like 40 years old, and are in perfect shape other than the motherf*ing zipper exploded on me. I need to find a place to install a new zipper in them. Not like a little nylon zipper though, but a big fat metal-toothed heavy duty one.

That's it. |

This country has booze and hookers on literally every street corner. Why would I want to blow any of it up?

Since you asked, I've recently tasked with teaching an "English through Science" class at work. Most of the items on that list are related to said course. Save for the zipper thing. That's for my boots. |

I can't help you with all the science things... but if you had asked a year ago, I could have given you a full set from my ex-husband's lab.

For the zipper, though.. there is a cowboy boots shop in Itaewon, directly across from Richard's Copycat diner. I believe they do repair work. Go in and ask. |

If you get off at Guro St. (Line 1), there is a big tool arcade there...you're bound to find some or all of the items you are looking for.

It's a massive place, spanning a few blocks.

Called 구로 기계 공구 상가, and is famous in Guro.

I can't remember the exit number (there are only two!), but when you get to the top of stairs when you are following for the exit, you want to head right, not left. To the left is Aekyung Department Store. You want to head in the other direction from Aekyung. |

Jongno street has many hospital supplies and research materials - I bought stuff there when I was processing my own film.

walk between Jongno 3 ga and Jongno 5 ga. I don't know how to explain which side of the street it's on but it would be the same as the Cheongni stream (sp?)

you can get stuff there pretty cheap too.

the goggles - hmm - that's a little harder - especially since safety here is at the bottom of the priority list.

let me know if this helps and what else you are lacking - there are some other places I can suggest. |
