I had a meeting this morning with my principal about new regulations. It's in the works that Busan PS summer camps are going to be mandatory this year and it's impossible for foreign teachers to get any extra pay for them. It's not overtime unless it cuts into our official vacation. |

I would not be surprised at all!
This year I have been told that I must teach 22 classes. A minimum and maximum of 22. So they are dreaming up different programs for me to fill up my hours. Bet I won't get extra money for camps in summer or half days.
I really hope I'm proved wrong! |

Busan has always been the home of low pay, desk warming and free holiday camps. You could work 20 minutes away and have decent conditions in another province, but if you stay in Busan it will suck. |

I've always heard that Busan was the last place (guess it was city) to not have desk warming and especially that teachers were paid well for camps but not elsewhere.
Last winter camp I was paid well. It was a per student thing. So I ended up getting better than private money for my three classes a day!

D.D., are you speaking from personal experience or hearsay here?
I worked at a public school in Busan for the last two years and I received competitive pay, never desk warmed a single vacation (this winter and last winter I was off for the entire period with no camp) and when I did do camps (two summer camps), I was paid on a per student basis as the students themselves had to fork over 50K each.
I will say that it does quite often depend on your school and your Principal or VP but you can't really make blanket statements about the entire BEP being the same.

D.D. is really wrong, and I know from experience. But, TDR, it's not going to depend on your principal anymore. They are having their hands tied this year apparently. They will be able to give you holidays in place of desk warming, but I don't think they will be able to pay you for camps. |
