Does anyone know any cheap gyms in Gangnam? I need one with decent free weights.
I live near Gangnam/Yeoksam station but I'm not paying crazy prices to go to the gym- ie Muscle Factory. Is there any cheaper ones? Cheers! |

I don't think the words "cheap" and "gym" go together in the world of Gangnam.
You have to be really careful with gyms around Gangnam because they tend to go out of business. Whatever you do, don't get a one-year membership.
I went to a gym called Amazon Fitness, which was really close to Gangnam Station a couple of years ago. I paid about 800,000 Won for a one year membership. One morning I went to go to the gym and all the doors were locked. I found out later that they had cleared out all the equipment in the middle of the night and disappeared. The owner of the building said they had left with tons of unpaid bills. I had a few months left on my membership, and luckily I had paid with Visa and got my money back from them. But be careful. Rent isn't cheap in Gangnam and a lot of gyms go out of business, or disappear like this one.
I went to one near Nonhyeon Station that charged 100,000 Won a month. Then I went to one in the basement of one of those golf places (you know the ones with the big green nets) right beside Nonhyeon Station and I think it was around 50,000 or 60,000 a month. That was the cheapest I was ever able to find. It was a small gym with pretty wimpy equipment though.
While I love Gangnam and miss it, I'm quite happy to have a really nice gym out here in the country for 20,000 Won a month. It's better than any over-priced gym in Gangnam!
Good luck! |

Nonhyeon Station Exit 2, walk down the hill until you get to the building next to Outback - there's a Recyle City on floors 1-3 and a gym on the 4th. 120,000 for 3 months, crowded and hectic but new equipment and best of all they have a power rack. |

If you live in Yeoksam, then you can use the community center gym. I had a look around and it's not bad for 40,000 a month.
Directions: Exit 1 of Gagnam stn, walk towards Yeoksam stn. Turn right at the first big intersection with the lights opposite the Dunkin Donuts. Walk for about 400m and it's on the other side of the road in a nice new building. |

I second the community centers.
I don't know Gangnam, but the two I've been to in my area were cheap, clean, nearly empty and best of all both had squat racks. |
