I require the services of two dwarves and/or migdets of either gender for a performance art piece. Must be OK with leather, a small audience, and enclosed spaces. Pays W100,000 each for 5 minutes on stage. Nothing illegal involved. |

No, this isn't a joke. It's a real employment opportunity. Only replies from those who prove elevationally-challenged status will receive response. |

Yes, I think your choice of words is a little off if you want to attract a smaller person. However, I was in Lotteria on Monday and happened to notice a very small Korean person working there. He had big ears and was in charge of sweeping the floor. I think you could persuade him with your rich offer. |

Also, it has "WTB" in the subject . Maybe "WTH" (H for "hire") would be more appropriate. |

OMG, Stonepep are you serious?
A lot of "midgets" raped and whipped in the cotton fields were there? Has there been centuries of oppression and exclusion of "midgets"
Calling a culturally ignorant and oppressive word such as ni##er the same as a non PC term like "midget" is like saying A man who unplugs his comatose wife from a respirator is the same as Jeffrey Dahmer.
The only reason midget is unacceptable is because uptight people need to find offence with terms OR they need to change it because society starts USING said term in an offensive way.
NOw If I am addressing someone I will use whtever term they wish me to use. One guy i knew (a first nations person) said "I am an Indian, call me an indian" so I did
BUt saying midget is NOT the same as the N word, and any intelligent person should know that. |

Sorry, hamlet712, but you and I don't get to call the shots on this one. Which term is seen as offensive depends not so much on the individual as on the community as a whole-- in this case, the "little" community themselves. And they have collectively decided that "midget" is indeed a pejorative term.
Maybe not every little person views it as offensive, but "midget" is not the preferred nomenclature. "Little person," please. |

Well, I would say don't get on your high horse on this one. It's just a quite different then the 'N' word.
E.g. I see a 'little' person in the street, I probably think is that a Dwarf, or is it a Midget? inadvertently my brain still has this query because I am never sure of which is which.. I am not gonna say it out loud of course.
This thread is a classic internet argument. |

Yet again I actually expected intelligent responses from a Daves post.
I did not say the term was NOT offensive to some, EQUATING it with the "N word" is NOT The same bloody thing.
On that clip from Jerry Springer that someone linked, do you think the show would have gotten away with it if it was 2 black men fighting and the audience was saying "Ni##er fight, Ni##er Fight"
if you say yes, pick up the phone, dial GOD and tell him he can have your brain back, you are clearly not using it.
Someone else mentioned "society" views it as pejorative, never said they didnt, but it is NOT the same as the N word in society.
Does a "little person" like being called a midget? I imagine many dont, and many are indifferent. The first nations guy I knew was indifferent about being called an indian.
The word "retarded" used to be acceptable since retarded simply meant HINDERED. Its likely not going to be long before we change mentally handicapped to "less advanced" because handicapped is going to sound offensive too. |
