Hi, I sold my baby two months ago thinking that I may not come back to Korea. Well, it turns out I am, and I am in need of another flatscreen tv. Let me if you have a 27-42 tv.

By the way, I will be back on Saturday. I can pick up the tv on Sunday. I'll be in Yongin, but can come to Seoul if the price is right.

And I hope that they won't let you in after they learn that you sold your baby. You're a terrible person.

As for TV's, they do pop up here from time-to-time.

At Technomart I saw 42" plasmas going for round 600-700,000w. I saw a couple 40" ones for lik4 550,000w, and I saw a few 32" TV's for 400,000w. These were Pavv's and XCanvas TV's.

I would imagine it would be the same at Yongsan as well. I was tempted to pick up a 42" Pavv, but I'm waiting until after my move.

I was at the Technomart in Gangbyon.

I'm guessing those TV's on sale were floor models. Still a great deal. I'm going to pick one up after a move.

I bought a 42" LCD XCanvas from Emart last week.
In the end it was cheaper than any of the sellers on Gmarket, so I assumed that I wasn't overpaying at least.

The sticker price was 1.69, but she ended up giving up a "nudge and wink" price of 1.44. I don't know if she was really giving us a secret bargain or this was just salesmanship, but it clinched the deal for me. They were advertising between 75,000 - 150,000 off for new TVs but we got 250,000 off.

If 1.5 is in your price range, I wholly recommend the TV, it's excellent.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but, I was in Techno mart at Gangbyeon today and all the TV's that are priced between 500,000 and 800,000 are not display models.

These prices are the price you pay if you buy the TV using reward points accumulated on your credit card. So unless you have a Korean credit card with 6-700,000 reward points on it then you are going to be paying upwards of 1 million won for a 42 inch TV.

Can anyone recommend a place to get a good deal on a LCD/PDP tv?. I'm in the market for a 42 inch and would like some ideas on places to check out

cheers

Yeah,

All those TV's priced super low are for Hyundai Card and Samsung Card reward points.

"SALE" my ass. It's just paying with a different method.

As for getting a discount, I was getting 20% off the sticker price if paying with cash. However, I still felt that was high.

In my opinion, if you go on ENURI (www.enuri.com) and then find the TV you want, you can go into the salesman with a price to bargain from. I'm told that if you do a good job you should be able to get the same price you find on the net.

If you look regularly on www.danawa.com and the naver resale section, you can find some deals. Yesterday, a guy was selling a 42-inch X-Canvas for 1,050,000 that was brand new. He got it through his company as some form of a bonus, and wanted to upgrade to a bigger TV. That TV was selling brand new for near 1,500,000 at Technomart and 1,250,000 on Enuri. Hence, it was a sweet deal. I called, but the TV was ONLY wall-mountable, and also had been sold about 30 minutes prior to my call. It lasted less than 2 days online.

If you see a deal, then buy it. They don't last long online.

Also, a PAVV or Xcanvas should have really good resale value because they are impossible to find used. If you're planning to upgrade in the next couple years, I highly suggest you buy an entry level model from LG or Samsung instead of the high-end. In the resale market you lose less on entry-level TV's.

Hope that helped a little. Oh, and if you want a 1-year-old 32-inch HD LCD PAVV, a guy is selling it on this website for 500,000.

Cheers.

Yes, at Technomart you need a specific card to get those lower priced TV's... Or in some cases a Korean SS#... I had big eyes and grand ideas when I saw 400,000 big screen also only to get there and realize I didn't quite qualify...

If you search online at Naver or Daum you can find really good deals... My Korean friend turned me on to online shopping in Korea... I got my 42" XCanvas for 975,000 + 15,000 for delivery = 990,000. That was the best I found anywhere last September... You may need a Korean speaking friend to call for you... You don't actually order online - you can search the ads and then call the distributor directly...

Usually next day delivery...

Dang, I had no idea. None of the signs I saw had any mention about credit cards or reward points. Sneaky ass sales people.

Looks like its back to the drawing board with TV shopping.

I'm hoping I can pick up a 42" XCanvas for around 850,00w somewhere.

How about off brands? In the used cafe on Naver, I saw 42" HD PDP's for around 400,000-500,000w. They were generic brands.
