Does anyone subscribe to KT's Mega TV service? I just moved into a new place and want to get some decent TV. What kind of channels do they offer and would anyone recommend it?

have you thought about Cable TV options?

I think digital cable in Korea is cheaper than MegaTV.

I wouldn't expect Mega service and channel selection, but I could be wrong. I'd expect 15 Korean channels and 2 in English showing old movies such as OCN. My advice is to get a nice computer monitor and use it to view TV shows and movies. Anything Korea says is Mega is Mega hyped up bullshitistic boring unless it's the Megapass.

Out in the rural, people got Sky Life satellite, but I watch it at the gym on treadmill monitor and it's only got 15 boring Korean channels and 2 English channels showing old stuff over and over again. Get KT Mega pass as it is really Mega.

I have Mega TV. It is your basic on demand cable service. They have tons of good movies, and they are broken down by genre. They also have tv shows and soccer games on demand, and it has a built in Norebang station. The only problem with mega tv is that the guide is written in Hangul. So I had to memorize all of the characters for the stuff I want to watch. If you know a Korean that can speak English well enough to interpret the buttons to you, you might be able to maximize Mega TV. They are still some features that I cannot begin to use because I cant understand the remote control.

megatv is great...heaps of movies, all sorted by genre, and they keep adding new ones every week or so. the new ones are 1000 won to watch but if you just wait a couple more weeks they will become free anyway.

also lots of american tv shows: lost, desperate housewives, 24, prison break, grey's, etc. lots of music videos.

and if you have kids, they have tons of disney movies and western animation programs as well, and they keep switching around the selection so it's not like once you've watched everything there is nothing to watch anymore.

worth it IMO. all you have to do is watch a few movies a month and you've already saved what you would have spent on renting them/buying them black market.

Yeah, it's good. You can choose what to watch when you want. But, it is written in Hanguel. You need to learn to read the characters. But many english names are written out in Korean characters. For example: Series : Prison Break : Dark Knight : Etc. YeongHwa is Movie. If you know this, get Mega Pass. But don't get it until you can read the characters; you won't know the name of shows until you do.

I got Mega TV last week combined with internet. I think there is a choice between streaming and on demand, I have the latter.

Its pretty decent. Its kind of annoying that you have to pay extra for some stuff (like 300 won per episode of Prison Break... stupid). But there is some good random stuff thats nice to have at your finger tips. Lots of Movies.

Personal note. I find it useful that the box has input for a USB flash drive because I only have HDMI output on my laptop and an old school TV. It saved me buying one of those chinese dvd players on Gmarket.

I have MegaTV and like it. There are even PPV options which are pretty cheap. I haven't used any of those yet but some friends and I plan to this weekend. Instead of paying for a ticket for each of us, it'll only be about a dollar total.

The remote control is pretty easy once you get used to it. The MegaTV magazine has a large explanation of it in Korean on the inside back cover. Just spend a few minutes experimenting with it.

Another option for the foreign movies and shows if you don't understand what the show title in Korean is: just click on it one time and a picture of it will come up. Quite often the picture will have the title in the original language.

I see, you got to have your own box and operate it; not just watch a preset signal like I did at my gym.

I don't usually watch programs such as prison break etc. I would only really be getting it for English Premiership football, Discovery, BBC and the occasional movie but after check the Mega TV website the number of Channels looks very limited (virtually no sports channels except Baduk!)

I'm also wondering if I can watch programs in real time on Mega TV or do I have to wait until they have finished and then watch them on VOD

MegaTV is essentially 2 separate services. You have a "Live" service which is regular TV streamed. And you have Video On Demand service.

The Live service costs more than the VOD service. Basically, you have to choose one or the other, because it'll be real expensive to keep both.
