So I found a 100 hour certificate for an online TEFL certificate that can get me a PS pay raise.

it's $190 US.

Can anyone beat that?

Does anyone know a cheaper one?

Just get a Khao San Road degree if you're looking for a scam... can't be more than $10.

I haven't completed it yet...but from it definitely claims to work for the pay rise (it's parent company is based in Korea.)

From all the detective work I've done I'm very confident that it's fine Smile

I had some problems getting them on the [email protected] email address, so was worried for a while. However it turns out that that email had server issues...if you use the address you paypal the fee to they will respond right away.

The owner of the parent company, Time Taylor, (Paul Roberston) seems to have a good reputation - I've seen nothing to suggest that there's anything dodgy about it Smile

So I'm thinking I'm about to sign up for this course if you say it's all good.

You're saying you've had a correspondence with them?

How far along are you?

Seems scam free so far?

Thanks

It definitely seems scam free...

Like I said, the owner runs a well established hagwon (Time Taylor) in Busan and they run attendance based TESOL courses too, so I'm sure as I can be that they are completely above board.

There's not much to the course...first you print out and read loads of journals from their website, then when you're ready you ask them for an essay question. (that's the stage i'm at now).

However, they have had issues with the email address on their site. If you don't get replies from [email protected], then write to the emaill address you send the paypal payment to and they should respond very promptly.

Once you've done the essay you send it to them, and they send you back a nice shiny certificate. In a velvet folder no less!

Waitaminnit... are you saying you get a TESOL certification from them for simply writing an essay?

Yes, is a scam IMO. Nobody behind the curtain doing any assessment of the assignments or "essay". Read This blog post and comments to here from those who haven't heard back or have experience with this "overt commercialization" of education.

I guess nothing is ever really "free".

And over 100 hours of reading and module questions Smile

Also, I believe the lack or response to email mentioned in the comments on that blog is just down to poor organisation rather than anything sinister.

I was worried after an email went unanswered for a while, but then tried them on their 2nd email address and all was fine.
