"I cannot just sit and watch poor North Korean refugees fleeing the barbaric rule of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il," said Rim, who escaped to the South in 1993.
But authorities in South Korea say the club has a dark side.
Police filed blackmail charges against Rim this week, alleging his group tried to extort about $162,000 from defectors they helped reach the South over the past two years. Police accuse Rim of using fellow defectors to extort money from others who have escaped from the North. Rim admits his group pursues refugees for money, but denies any extortion.
Defectors typically pay those who helped them escape once they reach South Korea, where the government gives them $31,600 in financial aid. Other refugees have reported paying money before reaching their destination, only to be abandoned along the route.

Okay...just a couple of questions here:
1) who the flying wh*p is this Rim character? (I'm guessing he is associated with a group that helps N. Koreans defect)
2) and if he does, why shouldn't they "donate" something, a sum, so this Rim and his posse can help others.
by the way, the definition of "help" is ??? |
