Man, this sucks. the drain line for my kitchen sink, the general bathroom drain, and my shower has been iced up completely. The drain pipe out of the house I'm living in is long and completely exposed and it's too out of the way to thaw with a blow dryer. I think the entire length of pipe is frozen.

I took the advice of some veteran cold-dwellers and dripped my faucets to keep the water supply lines free of ice, but I think this just caused my drain pipe to freeze like an icicle.

The only thing I can do is wait, they tell me. Oh well, good thing I'm getting out of this hole in just a few weeks.

Letting your faucet simply drip will only add more fuel to the proverbial fire. You need to have a continuous stream of boiling water assault that clog. Of course with it completely frozen up that is likely more easily said than done.

Is this the exception in Korea, or is it more commonplace than I think?

This is scary.
