37" 1080p LCD HDTV.

I'd like the opinions of the Dave's ESL experts on whether or not it is a good buy.

If 37'' is the right size for you, then it's a good buy.

Good spec. 1080p.......120hz.....2009 model.......For a smaller living room it's perfect.

Be sure you do it justice by feeding it a decent HD signal. Skylife will give you a contract with an HD box for the same price as standard. No installation fee if you sign for 3 years. After 3 years the box and dish is yours.

I'd say it's a good buy and demonstrates how affordable high end displays are becoming. Great for your PS3, high end computer, and blu-ray if you got the blu-ray disks. Of course, it'll emulate any resolution below 1080P HD depending on the content. Me, I just download movies off the internet and watch them on my 24 inch 1080P HD monitor I got for only 340,000 won a few weeks ago. It's 1080P, but only plays 720P as I'd need a more powerful computer to get at least 24 frames per second. 1080P movies stutter, skip, and stop so I'm watching 720P which is a huge step up. It's just a notebook driving the monitor.

Enjoy your HD viewing. Wink

PKang,

As you've probably noticed, I'm in the same boat as you and looking for a big LCD tv. However, I don't think the SOUL tv you're looking at is a good choice.

I've been seeing it for a while now and wondering the same thing as you, "Should I get this no-name brand TV which is offering all the same features, but at a way lower price?"

I can honestly say that at this point I won't buy it. Although the other companies have reputation, sales force and advertising build into their price, I also think their quality is much higher.

One of the MAIN reasons I say this is because of their contrast ratio. That TV has a contrast ratio of only 5,000:1. An XCanvas or PAVV with Full HD will be 50,000:1.

How long do you plan to keep the TV? Heck, I plan to have mine only around 1 year and I still won't buy the Soul brand.

Even a 42-inch LCD from XCanvas with regular HD and 20,000:1 contrast ratio is only 1,000,000 won online.

You can get a 37-inch LCD from XCanvas with regular HD and 20:000:1 contrast ratio for 950,000 won online.

Wait for a deal man, don't go with the Soul TV.

That's my opinion. If you get the Soul TV, let me know how it turns out though. Smile

To add a bit more.

I just saw a 47-inch Full HD no-name brand LCD for 990,000. Not a lot more money, and a LOT more TV.

I need the TV wall mounted with brackets. That'll probably run me an extra 150,000w (with parts and labor).

Unless...there is a friendly expat in Korea who can wall mount an LCD TV.

I just saw a (basically brand new) 42-inch XCanvas with Full HD and 50,000:1 contrast ratio go for 1,100,000 won on danawa. The guy was upgrading and had gotten the tv as a perk through work.

It included the wall mount. Smile

I thought a lot of TV's on Enuri included wall mounts.

I'm the opposite though. I can't use a wall mount since it's not allowed in our apartment on campus. Sad

Hi-mart have reduced a few LCD's/plasma's. I bought an LG 47'' for 1.8mill. That includes delivery and wall mounting.

Usually I think Hi-mart is terrible.......but right now they have a few TV's on sale.

Costco has some decent prices on Samsung TVs.
