I'm really curious to see what they're going to do to counter this. Korea, for all purposes, is in 1980 right now in regards to their handling of this disease, and much as places like San Francisco and New York had to counter this type of negative stigma that made it almost impossible to fight the spread of the disease, it should be very interesting to see how Korea handles the same thing.
It makes me wonder if they're usual response (blame foreigners and pretend there's no danger from Koreans themselves) is going to cause the problem to get worse, because they won't be paying real attention to what's going on. We had the exact same problem with a French flight attendant at the beginning of the AIDS spread, and many of the wrong responses were made, which only made the problem get worse.
Korea has the history of the disease itself to use in its advantage (unlike the 1980s where people were still trying to figure out what it was), but will they move forward and try to contain and eradicate it, or will they go the direction of Zimbabwe and blame others, allowiing the disease to spread because of fear of alienating their own population? |

Maybe Taxi drivers should be HIV tested as part of their licence. |

An AIDS patient in his 20s has had sex with dozens of women in Jecheon, North Chungcheong Province, over the last six years, police have revealed.
The Jecheon Police Station said Friday that the patient, identified as Chun, 27, had sexual relationships with waitresses and drunken passengers while working as a taxi driver since 2003.
He was diagnosed as an AIDS patient at a boot camp in 2003 and discharged from military service soon after undergoing a thorough medical checkup. Chun was stopped by police for stealing women's underwear, Wednesday.
Officers confiscated more than 400 undergarments and mobile phone pictures showing him having sex with 10 women from his home in Jecheon.
Police asked for an arrest warrant for him on charges of acting as a mediator in spreading HIV. |

I'm sorry but no taxi driver has sex with dozens of drunk passengers. We have another word for that.
Fortunately AIDS is no longer the scourge it once was. The life expectancy is increasing, every year. |

I say that when this taxi driver gets sent to Court, he should be put in a prison without AIDS medication and suffer a slow death from leprosy or whatever AIDS related complication comes his way. That should be punishment for knowingly spreading a disease like that. |

I love how they say, "may have been" when, if it were a foreigner, the newspaper would already have found him guilty. |
