I just got insurance for my first three weeks, I figure it's unlikely that I'll lose my luggage after I arrive, and I just wanted to have medical insurance until I get on the national plan (and I figure, if something goes horribly, horribly wrong with my visa and/or starting the job, I'll have insurance until I can book a flight and come back home) |

When i came over i got insurance with insureandgo.com ( This is if you are from the UK ). They can insure you for trips of up to 18 months and the cover was pretty reasonable. I didnt make any claims though so i dont know what they are like to deal with in that respect. Make sure you do it before you leave as you have to be 'resident' to take out a policy.
Miss Maggie - Its best to keep yourself covered with your own insurance as well. You school insurance will only cover 50% of your costs, even with this a hospital stay with scans, treatments etc can still easily cost you thousands. I good insurer if you are already out of your home country is www.sevencorners.com |
