I work for a public school and the contract says they will either buy or reimburse me for a ticket, but won't give me the money.

I don't want to go home.

I was thinking that I could buy a ticket, and then cancle it. That's kind of expensive though.

What would you suggest?

I suggest you buy a refundable ticket at a travel agency. Hand it to your supervisor. Wait until you get the airfare, cancel the ticket. I think there's a small fee, but it's still to your advantage. Then buy a ticket you want.

Reserve the ticket, but don't pay for it. Send them the reservation info. Just make sure to edit out the "payment pending" info.

You can usually change dates and names on a ticket for a price. Arrange a deal with a person you know that lives in your country, near the airport you'll be traveling to.

Perhaps not completely applicable because it was from a hagwon....

But I got my plane ticket home and then had it refunded for a 10% charge.

The great thing about it was that the money I received from that was more than enough to pay for 5 other flights to various places.
