The good old ROK is adopting the '3 strikes' plan to curb filesharing. Makes sense. All of this P2P filesharing is seriously hurting the bottom line of the good people who openly hawk pirated movies on the street.
I'm sure Korean ISPs will be thrilled at the idea of policing the stupernet on behalf of government and the RIAA.
MoJ: "We want you to set up and pay for departments in your companies that will track these dastardly hooligans, and then we want you to deprive yourselves of customers and profit by cutting off their internet service. Of course, you don't have to prove that filesharing of copyrighted material was actually done by the customer using that IP address. That would be very inconvienient for all involved (except for the customer). Nope; a simple allegation from a party who claims infringement occured is all ya need."
Korean ISPs: "Sounds great! We'd love to help. We'll start by looking hard at the internet traffic at the offices and personal residences of the members of the ROK National Assembly..." |

Allow me movie rentals and I'll pay! Not once in the states did I download torrents. This is something I learned in Korea. Many people around the world download American TV and movies, becuase it's not available to them. There is no global downloads rental services, but yet they bitch that hooligans are stealing movies, software, and magazines. I don't see any news stands selling English books, mags, and newspapers nor any software and tech support in English represented by American companies so they lost out on money making opportunities in the global economy.
American providers like Blockbuster and Netflix don't serve overseas markets; not even to American expats living abroad who have US dollar accounts to pay for service.
How can they expect us to live alone in a foreign country with no access to media material from home? How can they sell said English materials to millions around the world wanting it if they don't enter global markets to sell it? If American companies want to make money in the global economy off of producing movies, software, books, and mags, they need to go about it in a different way. Since they didn't deliver sales, service, marketing, and tech support to the world, the world figured out how to steal their material and are capitalizing off American inventions and ideas. Really, American media and entertainment already lost where they didn't go global with sales and service while their material goes global. |

So I'll have to get a new ISP account. I have been creating a wonderful library of 800 megabyte classic movies that I will watch over and over again. I'd like to collect maybe 500 movies. Classics, animated, Oscar winners, by actor (I'll watch anything with Jack Nicholson.) etc... |

Because they didn't ask us to go to a foreign country in the first place. Why are they responsible for providing us with media material? |

If the media have no interest or responsiblity in providing the material, why should they care if we steal it? |

"Stealing" is a misnomer anyway, because there's no loss of property on behalf of the "aggrieved" party. And I've heard all the arguments, but I've yet to be convinced that it's any different or worse than recording a show or film from your TV.
The number of films and sound recordings released each year continues to go up, not down. The industry is doing just fine. |

I'm no lawyer, but I think if you reduce someones revenue by co-opting their market, then it's a kind of stealing. I don't think stealing is the right word though... |

Many jurisdictions call it "theft of intellectual property" or something similar. Personally, I think it should be included under "theft of services." |

Good thing I do all my torrenting at school. I don't know what I'd do if they cut off my internet at home.
Besides, I get something like 5M uploads and downloads while I'm school! |

If you get busted three times you're a bit of a chump anyway. First time, sure you didnt know any better. Second time you use some kind of IP defender and join private trackers, but get careless because you really wanted Shrek 6 and got if from thepiratebay. Third time, you deserve it.
Intellectual property.. nothing intellectual about hollywood. As for musicians, if people really like them that much they will see them live and most likely buy merch and the original CD. Anyone who enjoys defending film producers and record labels just enjoys being fleeced. |

A few years back the Korean govt. tried to a "no piracy" campaign in all city govt. offices. It was stopped after they realized that they would have to shut down 80% of their PCs. |

They should feel honored enough that there's an audience/demand enough for Korean movies and tv shows to encourage piracy. |
