I am considering taking a job in Gyeongju city. Is there anything to do in this city? I am talking bars, other ex pats? I am very interested in the cultural aspect of Korea but want to feel somewhat at home and want night life. Can anyone tell me what I should expect. Searching the forums isn't giving me much insight. Thanks in advance.

I lived there for many years and still have strong ties. Gyeongju is small by Korean standards and, as such, doesn't have much nightlife, etc. It is a nice place to live. There are many scenic and historical attractions. You can easily connect by bus/train to the major cities of Daegu, Ulsan, and Busan.
There are a number of expats in the city now; a far cry from years ago when I was the only one... You will find them at the different universities (Dong Guk, Gyeongju, etc.), elementary, middle/high schools, and hakwons.
If you have questions, please feel free to PM me. |

Bluelake they want me to fly into Seoul which isn't a problem, by question is what do I take once I get off the plane? Another plane (puddle jumper) or a train, bus? What is the most likely mode of transportation that I will be taking once I get into Seoul? also how long is from Seoul to Gyeongju by said mode of transportation?
Thanks in advance, I will try and PM you once I have the required amount of posts which I am doing my best to attain. Thanks in advance. |

Hey TJ,
After collecting your luggage, you'll exit to a huge line of buses immediately outside the main exit doors. There is a bus directly to Gyeongju (but it's not particularly frequent). I'm not 100% sure which bus stop the Gyeongju bus will collect you at, but the Incheon Airport website says it's 10C. There are large information signs near the exit doors to the bus queue for you to double-check. According to the website, the departure times for Gyeongju are:
07:00, 08:50, 13:40, 17:10, 19:30, 21:30
and the travel time is five hours. Should you happen to miss your connecting bus, there are other options (such as traveling to Daegu/Taegu and changing buses there), but you might prefer to just wait for the Gyeongju bus. Up to you.
Check out the website:
http://www.airport.kr/airport/traffic/bus/busList.iia?flag=E
Scroll down to "Gyeongjoo/Pohang" for your bus. It's near the end of the list.
Have a good flight. |

I'm trying to go to Korea for my first time to teach in a hagwon, and so far I've been pretty uncompromising about only working in Seoul or Pusan. Am I limiting my opportunities too much by doing this, or am I right in assuming that there are plenty of opportunities in Seoul or Pusan if that's where I want to live? |
