i had a totally nice guy adult student talk to me today about how its important to him that korea beats japan in the wbc. i had a hard time keeping a nice guy face when i gave him my honest sports opinion.
i like good games and great players. i actually hate baseball. i like lebron, dwight howard and kobe. if you kids arent afraid of a decent thread, maybe you can talk about how you handled talking about korea's ill-founded baseball egotism. |

| The whole 'Korea must beat Japan' has VERY little to do with baseball and almost certainly nothing to do with what you call baseball egotism. |

| i saw on the tv in the pharmacy a few hours ago that Korea was getting slaughtered by the San Diego Padres. Maybe we should take them down a notch by telling them the Padres are one of the worst teams in the MLB and they just got manhandled |

| Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot less fuss over this one than the last one? |

| I think there is less fuss because Major League Baseball is actually putting more effort in making this competition exciting by letting big name players play. Jeter, Ichiro, Beltran, Ivan Rodriguez etc are bringing in the U.S. viewers (or thats what theyre hoping for anyway). There's not much chance for Korea to actually make it to the semis this time - let alone win the thing. But they do have an uncanny knack to do well on the world stage though.... |

| 9 innings of baseball is way to small of a sample size to determine the better team. Look at the Netherlands beating DR--this is just entertainment and that's all it should be viewed as. An actual determination as to who's the best team should be determined over the course of a real season (or at the very least 100 games or so). |

They did beat them twice.
Also, this would make sense for every sport, not just baseball. |

I agree. Or at least a 7 game series. The Cubs were the best team in the regular season last year but sucked ass in the playoffs. That's what you can expect from the Cubs though... But yes, WBC=purely entertainment. |

Actually, Korea has a legit shot of going past the next round. Korea and Japan will face Cuba and Mexico. If Korea beats Mexico and wins one other game, they advance. |

Cubs...man I'm sorry. Whenever you'd like to come over to the South Side, we'll be here waiting for you at 35th and Shields. |
