for white day, my korean wife wants to eat mexican food, but at a nicer restaurant. we have been to taco amigo in itaewon and dos tacos. both have good food, but the restaurant is more of a fast food environment.

so what mexican restaurants (and please include directions) have good food and a good atmosphere?

thanks!

I don't know if you're going to find many "nice" sitdown Mexican restaurants here. Your best bet is probably On the Border, maybe? I think it's the nicest, as far as the scant Mexican places in Seoul go. I can't speak for the other two locales, but the one in Sinchon has never disappointed me... which is more than I can say for almost every other Tex-Mex place in Korea.

It's in Yeouido. Haven't been there in about a year due to distance, but it was always pretty good. It would qualify as a "nicer" restaurant. A tad more refined than South of the Border in terms of food and decor. Worth a visit as it's probably the best you're gonna get in Korea.

I live in Daegu, but every time I go to Seoul I go out to the COEX and eat at "On the Border." It's amazing. I used to eat there when I lived in the southern US, but it's soooo good. It's fairly expensive but they have okay lunch specials. Also, the meals are ridiculously proportioned. One meal could easily be two or three regular meals. They make amazing margaritas. They make home made chips and salsa and they serve the best chimichangas. Ah, in anycase, you can check out their website at: www.ontheborder.co.kr to see a menu. I loved it in the States and I love it here. There might be one somewhere else in Seoul but I can't remember where.

Casa Loca has two locations:

one in Yoiedo and one in Apkujeong. The one in Apkujeong, I remember being on a bit of the nicer side. Both are nicer than the average Seoul taco fare and hands down better than on the border.

Casa Loca!! I couldn't remember the name but I distinctly being impressed by a mexican restaurant in and around Apgujeong. I remember it was on a main street but we had to walk a bit to get there.

I just checked out the website and indeed it's Casa Loca!

I was quite impressed. REAL GUACAMOLE. Time to figure out where it is and head back.

I ate at La Merce in Seohyeon (Bundang) and was revolted when the guacamole they served was in fact mayo mixed with relish (or some similar concoction). Needless to say, I only ate there once.

On The Border at Coex mall is good. I've eaten there twice.

In all cases, bring your wallet.

Casa Maya in Hongdae has authentic (and good) Mexican food. The owner is cool and speaks really good Spanish! Very Happy For American-style Mex, On the Border in Coex has some good grub. For Kormex, I give Dos Tacos in Kangnam the thumbs up. But as you mentioned, not the most relaxed sit-down meal in town. Haven't had great experiences with Taco Chile Chile in Itaewon, but others have said they've had good meals there so it may depend on when you go and what you order. Hope that helps.

Buen Provecho!

There's Mexican food at Coex?

Where exactly is On the Border?

Please, please tell!

Inside the mall. From the subway station, walk into coex mall; when you get to the foodcourt on your left, walk across it. Exit the foodcourt on the opposite side. Look around a little and you will find On the Border.

You can also get to it from outside of the mall, which I find easier to do. Head to the casino side. If you were outside the casino, you would walk towards Hyundai Shopping centre. About halfway you'd find it on your left. Next to the bus terminal I believe.
