If you have recently purchased a Dell system and brought it with you from your home country, make sure everything works before you leave! Otherwise you'll be up a s**t creek with a t**d for a paddle. This is the second system I've bought from dell, and this one is even worse than the first (why didn't I get a mac? Why oh why?)

My pitiful little story:
Right before i left i got a *good* deal on a dell laptop from the outlet, a nice 17"with some rocking specs. Only one problem: plug anything into the headphone jack and you'll get some irritating crackling static. No time to fix it before I left, and since I've got here I found that all the driver updates, bios tweaks, etc., in the world won't fix this. It's a hardware issue, the result of crappy quality control and general laziness, and not an uncommon one: I spent several hours checking out tech support forums.

Finally I'd had enough, so I got on the chat with a support rep. Sure, they were courteous; that was the only good thing about the stupid interaction. They basically told me that 'maybe' i should reinstall windows (tried it) or fly back to the us in order to mail them a package. Seems you can't mail things from Korea to Dell if your stuff was purchased in the US.

Reinstall the driver? Reformat my laptop? Are you friggin kidding me? This is a hardware issue. Even to mail the laptop back to the US and have someone else mail it to Dell is pretty stupid. I'm friggin closer to whatever developing country dell is using for their warranty support. It should be cheaper and easier.

My only recourse at this point is to take the f****r apart and wrap the wires with shielding tape, something I found on a forum post, discovered by some Call of Duty 4-playing college students. Yes, my solution to fix a $1000 laptop: duct tape the motherfu***r. Warranty, shmarranty.

Let this be a warning to you:

If you value quality and good service, don't buy from Dell!

Just ring them again and speak to someone different. My Dell xps had problems here and they came the next day to fix it. the warranty was uk.

korean shipping is cheap.

ship it to family or friends, get it fixed and have them sell it.

lesson learned...dell = crap.

I had a dell laptop that I owned for about a year in univeristy and came over here with. while I was here the battery scandal broke out. dell refused to send me a new "safe" battery because I was here.

Mr.Dell is not a rich man for making great innovative products...he's a rich man by cutting corners.

By ring dell, i mean ring the dell in korea and ask to speak to someone english, your dell back home wont know what to do and just say it isnt an international warranty.

I bought my Dell XPS 1710 back in the US about 2 years ago. I bought the laptop with a 3 year on-site warranty. I've had no problem transferring my warranty to Korea. You will need to call Dell in Korea to transfer, as their customer support in India is totally useless.

I've called Dell in Korea for service in the past. They have been very prompt and knowledgeable.

We're done with Dell.

I'd had good luck with them in the past, but no more.

The past two Dell's we purchased have crapped out both before and after the warranty. My wife's is currently out of warranty and is having issues with either the mainboard or the power supply.

The notebook we purchased my mother-in-law last year (which she hardly used) suffered a hard disk crash over Seolal.

International Services Program
The Dell International Service Program provides service and support for your Dell notebook computer while you are with it outside of the country in which it was originally purchased3.

Coverage is available for LatitudeTM and InspironTM notebooks when you purchase 3 years of Next Business Day (NBD) On-Site Service2. With this service, if you travel outside your home country and experience a problem with your computer, you can request international service in the countries where international service is available. Learn more about the International Services Program and the countries in which service is available.

The Dell International Services Program offers the security of knowing you can receive service and support1 when you travel with your VostroTM , PrecsionTM , LatitudeTM ,StudioTM ,XPSTM , or InspironTM laptop outside your home country.

There are three methods for engaging technical support when travelling internationally: Call the call center of the country in which you're travelling
Call the call center of your home region while abroad
Call the International Queue at 512-728-7424 (toll call). If in the US or Canada, call 800-285-1653 (toll free)



The call center that you contact will perform a problem diagnosis. If repair is needed, the phone technician will arrange for service by contacting the Dell call center in the country where the customer is located. A dispatcher will contact the customer and arrange for service.

The following table lists the countries where international service is available on most Dell laptop models. Service will generally be available in most major metropolitan locations. For information on available service levels in specific countries, contact a Dell sales representative.
