Is there anywhere in Seoul to buy Prime USDA steaks (either a restaurant or a store?)

I know Aussie beef is available in most places, but I want to buy American beef, because 1: USDA Prime is awesome, 2. To make my own quiet political point (voting with my money.)

I'm in Kansas City at the moment getting ready to transit back to Korea and I was just checking up on availability there. Being in Kansas City, where BBQ is a religion, it's pretty crazy here -- with all of the people running around with mad cow disease and all.

Thanks for any useful information..

For the most part, the beef here isn't properly cut, as in rib-eye steaks, etc. However, I'm eating some thin sliced US beef at this very moment. I sear it a pan. It's rather tasty. It's nice to be getting quality US and Australian beef, at less than half the price of the Korean Rubber Beef.

i know this is not seoul but in Bucheon there is a place and the butcher or owner speaks english. It is somewhat behind the Hyundai department store in Jung dong on a road that borders the main park. Not sure if you want to travel that distance to find some beef.

i am in a small town, not seoul, and i can get american beef (and i do, as it is a fraction of the price, better, and political)

but if i can get it here, i am sure you can in seoul.

go to a butcher, ask meegook sogogi eesuyo? (the u is soft, i think the rest is easy to say, the o is hard)

that means do you have american beef?

I've seen a bit at Home Plus, but nothing like a good inch-thick cut, sadly...

Thanks everyone! I'm glad it doesn't seem like it will be a struggle. When I was in country back in 2002 and later in 2006, it was pretty darn hard to find beef from the land of the angry cows.. Anyone remember those protests a few years ago? Nothing quite like seeing a bunch of farmers/ranchers burn buildings due to a benevolence towards public health. Wink

It'll be a couple of months before I get back, but I will bring some Gates with me. I live about a block away from one now. I wish I could just import my own cow too!

Imagine having kalbi at a restaurant and pulling out a bottle of Gates sauce.. Wow. That would be fantastic. Koreans might faint from the beautiful sacrilege of it!

Thanks for the inspiration and the reminder that Gates BBQ isn't on every Korean street corner.. That's something I will miss that I didn't think about!
