Has anyone traveled on the Trans Siberian or the Orient Express? I am really interested in doing both when my contract is over. Can you do both on the same trip. Trans Siberian---Bejing to Moscow and the Orient from Moscow to Europe...whereever..like Italy?
If you have been or know of any info please post it.

I went from Irkutsk to Beijing (stopping in Mongolia) in September. You certainly can go all the way from Beijing to Moscow. trans-siberian.co.uk is a great company (The Russia Experience).

You can stop as often as you want. I highly recommend Lake Baikhal. Mongolia is so cool if you like roughing it.

Booking the tickets can be a bit tricky and crazy changes are common. Russia Experience takes care of you is those situations. If you like budget traveling and independence, they're pretty good because it's mostly hands off.

e-mail me if you want to know more. Go for it!

Seat61.com

I doubt you'll be able to do the Orient Express on the same trip though unless you get lucky.

I just went Moscow-Vladivostok. The guy who shared my cabin (it's winter so luckily 2 in a 4 person cabin) had the same birthday as me!

Tickets might cost a fair whack and the Russian visa ain't cheap either but you'll probably only do it once.
