nothing too hard, these kids (public school) are much more challenged by English than the kids at a hagwon. I need really basic fun handouts (their English is close to nonexistent)
Like an empty face and they draw in the nose, eyes, mouth etc
Listing parts of the body
etc.

www.handoutsonline also has lots of good stuff - especially if you pay a small annual fee ... |

I have quite a few I use, but it depends on the level. What level/age are you teaching? |

for higher level classes in Japan i always used www.breakingnewsenglish.com
good "advanced" articles that provoke discussion, along with vocab match, grammar, listening, etc. |

I am teaching very beginner English speakers at a Public school. We had to test them to place them in each level and their English ability is next to zero. I asked them where they live and what is the weather outside like and they were just staring at me in confusion. Some even had trouble telling me their name. So easier worksheets are great. Thanks.
Elementary students. Maybe lower levelhigh school? It's an after school program so easier worksheets are better. |

What grades are you teaching? Sounds like you are a new teacher. Even really smart kids will sometimes not say two words in class. It takes time for them to open up to a new teacher. Try giving them a task and talking to them in smaller groups.
Or put on a video on youtube and get them to make comments. Once they say something try to get them to expand that to a part sentence or full sentence.
If you have open class discussions they will get more and more brave as time goes on so don't give up on it.
With middle school kids they will quite often talk to you in groups of 4-5 students but not in front of the class.
They also talk more if you talk about Korean stuff like Korean music and food. ie. stuff they relate to. |
