Those of you who have stopped taking the pill please post your experiences. Describe how your body dealt with it and the pros and cons. Also, if you switched to another birth control method, do tell.

One of my ex's went off her brand of pill while we were together and was advised to wait 3 months before starting a new regiment.

During those 3 months she lost a few kilos and her skin seemed a bit healthier looking.

She didn't change her lifestyle in anyway, so we both guessed it was the chemistry that caused the change.

I've gone from the pill to depo, to the pill again, to a low-dose pill, and back to depo.

Nothing really to report... every time I started a new form, I put on about 5 pounds. When I stopped taking depo I didn't start having periods again for a few months. The only thing that really bothers me is that when i'm not taking anything, i get really painful cramping. I don't have any periods or cramping on depo, and they're not as bad on the pill.

I lost about 10 pounds the first month I was off it - no other changes to report, my cycle stayed the same and I felt the same.

I quit five weeks ago and haven't had a period for four weeks. Sure it's coming any day now... sigh.... I quit because I wanted no periods but I was getting a lot of spotting which is just as bad.

Haven't noticed anything different except that the spotting stopped.

I tried the pills out of curiosity to relieve PMS and regulate my period. I didn't gain or lose any weight. I decided to quit last July, and I swear I didn't have my period until this month - and no I was not pregnant. I don't know if my period will be regular, just have to wait until next month. For those 8 months that I didn't have my period, I did have PMS: bloating, backache, migraines, etc.

Hmm. I'm thinking about going off of it since I have been on it for a looong time. But I am scared of the horrible cramping I hear about. Oh well, at least I get to take off one day a month at my PS for "women's troubles!!!" Yeee HAww!

I've been on the pill to depo, and then back to the pill (low dose). The first pill brand I was on after coming off depo caused me to have insane amounts of breakthrough bleeding so I had to get off it for a few months. I didn't notice myself losing any weight, but my boobs deflated a bit (my bf noticed, asshole) and my skin broke out a bit more. Sorry to say but the cramps were back in full effect and I didn't miss any cycles. Honestly, I am quite happy to be back on a new, lower dose of pill.

I actually lost weight when I started birth control...My only experience is switching methods...I went through a couple of different pills, only because some caused break through bleeding...I would be regular with the pill then wouldn't be and this went on for a bit. Then using it to skip periods and manipulate it, which is definitely not good for your body. So, now I'm on the ring. I love it...It took about a month to adjust...I had some mood swings, I think because of the lower dosage, but after that month I was fine.

Which ones don't cause breakthrough bleeding? I really want to go back on the pill asap but don't know what to look for. I was on Mercilon before.

I tried 3 different forms of the pill, plus the patch, before I finally decided to go off of it. I spent 3 years on them and I feel *so much better* now. All of the pills and the patch made me really sick if I even had one glass of wine or one bottle of beer. Literally, I would have one thing and then spend four hours vomiting up my guts. Also, they made me extremely b*tchy on a more regular basis. I felt extremely irritable on some days and so irrationally angry on others. On one of the pills (Yasmin, I think?), I couldn't eat more than one small meal for the first week of a new cycle. One day, I'd just have an orange. The next, just a bowl of soup. I just didn't have an appetite for anything. The patch made me really ill in the mornings, too, so if I woke up before 7 AM, I'd spend the next few hours puking. Oh! And I also developed an allergy to the sticky stuff on the patch so it left some scars on my body. Fantastic.

So...yeah. Was sick of all the crap, had a talk with my boyfriend at the time, and decided to go off of it. It's been great. My weight stayed the same, as did my skin, but I feel a lot happier and less irrational now. I can also drink without the fear of getting sick. I went back to feeling normal within the same month that I stopped taking the pills.
