Why do younger students make the mistake of saying:
Thirty forty-five?
I had two students say 4:35 was
It's forty thirty-five.
THey know how to count to 100 and they can tell time in Korean, how does this mistake originate? |

For the same reason the older co-teachers do, I guess. |

do they have trouble saying the time in general?
or just with 3 and 4?
In Korean they use Native Korean numbers to count the hours and Sino-Korean numbers to count the minutes.
Sino-Korean numbers are based on groups of tens until you get into the thousands I think.
It might be confusing for them for that reason.
Or maybe they just confuse three with thirty and four with forty, which wouldn't be that hard to do if you think about it. |
