I've been camping before in Korea and unless you're dead serious about doing it often, I'd buy cheap equipment online (ie $15 tents etc).

It can also be a little crowded so best to go very early in the morning and either wait for a good spot or take what's on offer.

Korean's are extremely friendly campers and love sharing their things with you and to chat in English (although I wouldn't say that's the sole reason for their friendliness).

I hope you have a great time.

costs about 20.000 won for the camping grounds, showers and bathrooms available... like the other poster said, get in early and dont be afraid to meet other campers...

When I lived in Jeollanam-do a couple of years back, there were plenty of little islands off the west coast with good ferry service and almost no one there except in August. I camped in the treeline of the beach, lit a fire, and even had a cookout on the beach, all for free and no one bothering me.

I wonder if places like Imja-do, Boggil-do, and Suwi-do are still quiet or have they been built up since 2005/6? Those were great places for freecamping with great beaches.

Uh,... Boggildo was busier than hell when I was there in July of '06. Though, yeah, the camping was free and the island had a to-be-developed vibe to it.

There are so many well-kept secrets when it comes to beaches and islands in this country. The months of June and September are actually warmer than summer months back home but Koreans don't think of them as summer so the lack of crowds is very... nice.
