An update on this safety story about Eastar Airlines.

From a Korean news report I read, they say that the pilot ordered the flight attendant to pull in on the door handle to make the open door light in the cockpit go out so they could fly the plane. Shocked

Hahaha it is pretty bad when Korea cites someone for lax safety standards.

I have flown only Cebu Pacific and I felt safe with them.

Old planes with new paint jobs. I understand why you feel safe. Lots of other people do too.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I was under the assumption that most crashes these days are due to pilot error. I'm sure our resident expert on all subjects from aviation to civil rights will be able to confirm or disprove this.

I'm afraid Steelrails is currently preoccupied.

I heard he is currently hosting seminars on maritime safety procedures, then finishing writing up new guidelines on foreign workers' rights for the UN.

Or you could have half a brain and just do a simple google search. Results indicate that pilot error accounts for roughly 50% or slightly more of all accidents.

Two things
1. It doesn't make you an expert if you can go look up information and read. That makes you a person with say, above a 4th grade level of education. Or just apply basic principles learned in education.

2. If I'm wrong, point out how I'm wrong. Don't say "He's claiming to be an expert", wave your hands in frustration, and then storm off. That's like your dad telling you that your car takes doesn't have a turbocharger, so buying a blow-off valve to soup up your car is pointless and you screaming "Dad you're just a teacher, what are you an expert car engineer now?!"

3. I am not going to apologize or stay quite because I had the good fortune as a child to have parents who were private pilots and I got to go flying with them every weekend. If any of you have any significant aviation experience and knowledge, first hand or otherwise, you are free to comment as well.

4. You forget the threads where I don't comment. There are plenty of topics where I don't bother to comment. You fail to consider those.

Easy now, wise one. I'm too dumb to figure out internet search engines. Maybe you can elucidate on how search algorithms gather data? I might find out next year when I take my 5th grade tests..

Cebu Pacific's fleet is 4.1 years old on average. Try something else.

For all you people who need to see it in English. Here it is. I like the pictures they drew for the story.

I think the link I posted above speaks for itself. It wasn't just the pilot. After being flown twice that day with an unsecured door, the ground mechanic duct taped the door shut and the plane was allowed to fly for a third time. When keeping a schedule becomes more important that the safety of the aircraft and the people on board, something is seriously wrong.
