|

Did anyone hear about this?
It seems there will be some kind of training on a SATURDAY morning for Gyeonggi-do hagwon teachers, no matter if you are full-time or part-time AND no matter if you're a Korean or a foreigner.
To me, it just doesn't make any sense. |

Yes, this annual training is required for all Hogwan teachers. It is required for Koreans, and foreigners, E2s and F whatevers.
If you are lucky, they will have separate training sessions for the foreign English teachers, foreign Chinese teachers, foreign Japanese teachers, and the Korean teachers of all subjects, each in the appropriate language. Sometimes these are all lumped together.
Sometimes the F visa teachers have to attend the Korean teacher meeting, which is held in Korean, of course.
These meetings are required for legal hogwan teachers that are registered at their local education office. Illegal teachers are exempt.
There is a fine if you do not attend. There are other penalties for your school if you do not attend. |

| That would be kinda cool if someone would actually organize a professional development meeting for the hakwon teachers around here. I would totally go, and I'd buy my own lunch. I wish KOTESOL was more active around here, I'd get a membership. |

| Only a fraction of the foreign teachers who are 'supposed' to attend these things do. Bosses don't want their ingrate waegooks asking for more pay just because they have to give up a Saturday, and the really bad hagwons don't want their foreigners finding out how much better off other teachers have it (not that this doesn't happen at the pub on friday night or on Dave's every day). |

And this hagwon owner has no idea what this is all about.
Anyone care to enlighten me on where to get information about this?
What institution organizes these events? |
