The current drug test required by immigration is called the TBPE (urine) test. It tests for opiates, amphetamines and cocaine. It does not test for cannabinoids.

That said, some hospitals have been said to be still (mistakenly) testing for cannabinoids. Most don't. Just check when you go to the hospital.

Given your situation, I wouldn't worry about it even if you do have to do a cann. urine test. Just don't smoke weed in Korea. Penalties are too harsh.

The hair test is quite expensive, and so is generally not used, but may be used to confirm a urine test.

as stated, make sure you don't smoke weed in korea. the police is ulsan just busted a korean/american who was dealing and did the usual phone record checks which resulted in people being pulled off the street by the cops. as far as i know, no one was deported, they do take it seriously here.

are you working in a public school or hagwon as it could make a difference. hagwons are generally slower at following the rules than ps's, so if it is the former, you might have more time to flush the system

anyway, enjoy namchang, it's a seaside town -jinha beach - but quite small; actually, very small about 40 minutes from the central rotary of ulsan. also, busan is quite close.

Yawn, why don't you try doing some research on the marijuana detection window rather than freaking out about a drug test that is 4-5 weeks away.

I assume that you believe the cock and bull story propagated by American media and the US government about pot staying in your system for 30 days or more.

Marijuana Detection Time Shorter Than Previously Assumed

"When tested at the 50 ng/ml cutoff threshold, infrequent users typically test negative for the presence of marijuana metabolites within 3-4 days, while heavy users typically test negative by ten days after ceasing use, the study found."

You're welcome

You'll be fine. It's not like your test will be the moment you arrive.

I managed to delay my test for 3 weeks. I just kept coming up with excuses that I couldn't get to the hospital. My hogwon didn't care because it was me who needed the alien residence card and health insurance, not me.

Anyway I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just don't smoke a week or so before you go and you should be good.

wow. if i had a cheonwon for every drug test post from just the last month, i'd have almost a dollars worth, ba domp bomp tsshh Laughing (im here all week folks. try the veal. be sure to tip ur waitresses)

honestly though, u shouldnt smoke b4 coming here. and u certainly shouldnt smoke while ur here. anyone dumb enough to blaze up in korea is just asking for trouble.

as far ur tests, i just had my tests done to extend my E2 another year. even though i knew my urine test would come back clean, as i havent been with mary jane for well over two years now, i still asked the doctor and nurses several times about it. word i got was they dont test for it. but, if there r any "irregularities" in ur urine test, they can then test for whatever they want. including weed or any other banned substance. including steroids. through urine or hair tests. the solution? dont give them an excuse to test further. make sure ur not contaminated and dont try to cheat the test with water downed pee cause u were chugging 5 liters of water b4 u came in. dont try to use any pills or anything that r supposed to clean u out. u can be accused of attempting to manipulate the results and theyll just keep getting tests from u till they get what they want.

seems like such a hassle though for something that is considered relatively harmless by the rest of the world and at one point was practically legal here b4 the korean war broke out (and still is in the extreme rural parts of the country side)

Thanks all.

Matt, "yawn"? Are you here to be entertained?

And don't worry, I certainly don't f'n plan on smoking pot in Korea. My fascination with pot is nearing an end anyway... I think that phase is over for me.

Why would you say in the same thread that you do drugs and name the town you are about to go to? It's not that hard to figure out who you are. I would edit that part out of your post. Good to see that you are getting over the stuff as it does a lot more harm than people think.

Not soon enough, however, to stop you from blazing one when you're actively looking for a job...

For the last time, people. If you're looking for a job here, STOP SMOKING DOPE. If you can't stop smoking dope, don't come here. You put us all in a VERY bad situation. What's next, immi busts another hippie burning a spliff outside some dive in jeolla and I gotta submit to bi-weekly piss tests?

DRUGGIES GO HOME!

Says the guy who's probably getting liquored up every other night in Itaewon. What, did you used to work for the US prison system?

And if Immigration has just recently reversed their decision to test for marijuana, then I seriously doubt if a little bust is going to change that now. Boy, paranoia without the pot. Scary.

If you actually don't believe that what one person does can change the rules for everyone, you need to bone up on your history of English teaching in Korea. Used to be you just needed a pulse. Then a pulse and a degree. Then a pulse and a degree and a drug test. Then a pulse and a degree and a drug test and a CBC. Why were all these extras added?

Remember the swirl guy... remember the swirl guy...... Just.. Bone up on your history, man. There's one thing about getting drunk in Shitawon every night: It's perfectly legal.

One reading of history isn't necessarily a good predictor of future events, so spare me that pretentious, pseudo-intellectual garbage. Korea seems to really be getting to you. You should consider a change.

Some things are not grey-areas, like drinking vs. smoking dope. There's a very clear line there. What 3척guy said - one is legal. The other is not. If you think smoking dope here is okay, it's you that needs the change.
