I wonder whether any of you have worked for the BC in Seoul? If so, how is it? I'm guessing it'll be a busy schedule, but is it a nice work environment?
Another thing for anybody in Seoul. BC offer 700,000 for housing allowance. Could this get me a reasonable place in Seoul? They also offer (for me) about 1.7 basic pay in won (and another 550 in British account). Would I be able to live off that? What kind of lifestyle would I be able to afford on that wage? Ideally, I wouldn't want to dip into the gbp. What do you think?
Thanks in advance. |

Capo,
Any chance you could edit your post and delete that link? I've put it here in shortened version so people don't have to scroll across to read it. Thanks.
British Council Seoul Job Ad
Anyone else got any input? I really want to know about cost of living there and whether I could live comfortably off that wage. Thanks. |

Yes, you could easily live comfortably off that wage and save the pounds. |

I've been in there a couple of times during the morning to sit exams, but it was pretty quiet then. I expect it gets busier during the afternoon and evening. It looks like it'd be a nice enough environment to work in though. Mostly Koreans' but there were a few foreigners milling about. |

I did my Celta there and it's a great place.(technology, general location) If you want to do it it will be alot of work and you'll be teaching across a large spectrum of ages.(kindy to adult)
The students I taught and observed as part of my course were fantastic(highly motivated).
If you decide to apply good luck. |

BC are the devil spreading the evil word of Britishness around the world.
Be careful working for them, they have lots of tricks up their sleaves to get you to do more hours, to take on more responsibilities, and to not pay your taxes etc and let you get stung at the end of your contract.
Had several friends work at branches around the world and all have left burnt out. Only people who have an easy time in BC are at the top. |

Thanks for the replies everyone. It's sounds like a good place to come and stash away loads of cash.
Sobriquet, thanks for the generalisations. Actually, I work for the British Council now, so I have no qualms about getting burnt out. Do you know of any more specific issues with the Seoul branch? |

Check your visa status with them and how they handle tax etc.
I remember somebody having issues with Seoul because of the way they were employed. |
