Has anyone considered a vocabulary/language teaching system for beginners like "Basic English"?

I wonder if it would make a solid foundation from which to move forward with more advanced learning.

I am kind of trying to set that up now at http://englishlessons.wikispaces.com

There is a vocabulary section. My goal is a little different. I want to focus on Chinese, Japanese, and Korean and find the most common words. In Japanese, they have something called Joyo (I am sure Korea has something similar, my co-teacher sent me some lists of the Hanja, chinese characters).
