I've looked on Xpeed.com and I can't find anywhere that tells you the speed of the internet.

The only information they have is completely useless. A bar chart that shows their internet is 40% faster than the competitor, and that the X-Lite is 7,000w cheaper a month than Prime.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 2 services?

Don't know the difference, but according to Speedtest.net the top three in Seoul are:
Hanaro
LG Powercomm
Powercom

You can also check the top providers in your area of Seoul.

I have a fiber optic connection from KT, 100m really fast I normally get dl speeds of 80,000 from Japan at speedtest.net. DL at 12,000 usually, depending on seeds of course. Only pay 24,000 per mo.

Did you contact them through an English line?

Afraid not. Wife is sorting it out. I'll ask her later if there's an English service and post back.

LG told me that foreigners can not get their internet/tv service.

Its strange how LG's Cell Phone division is the most foreigner friendly, yet their internet/tv service is impossible to get as a foreigner.

I called KT up and told them that I would stay with KT if they could gave me a good deal. KT told me to go ahead and switch companies because they can not do anything to beat their competitors prices.

As suspected, no English helpline for that package.

Anyway, the deal isn't as good as I thought. My wife just quoted me the phone and internet package. 26,000. The TV option adds 10,000. 36,000 is still quite good for internet/TV/phone.

We looked at the available channels from LG TV and they are 99% Korean lang only. No BBC or Discovery. Just CNN and something called World Sports, which I imagine is just Asian golf, unimportant motorsports and sailing coverage.......

We're still going to get it though. So my wife and her Mom can watch Korean drama in HD................ah well. I never watch broadcast TV, so I don't care.

100m/bit (or anywhere near) is only possible in a building wired with fiber-optic cabling. In Korea, that usually means high-rises only. The company will install a high-speed fiber-optic hub somewhere in the building and then hook all the apts up to that.

But I can imagine some newer Villa neighborhoods might have fiber-optic networks.

Foeigners aren't eligible for the package because they can't force you to pay after you figure out a lot of the channels are Korean (not English) and you decide it's overpriced for what you expected. Discovery Channel in Korean? No thanks.

They got tired of foreigners cancelling, and not being able to extort money through force of ocntract, as they would a Korean person. Screw 'em.

Well, we moved to our new apt and had LG Powercomm installed as well as MyLGTV......and a wireless phone.

First impressions are pretty bad. There's a lot of drop-out on the TV signal and the internet signal. The TV cuts out for a few seconds a lot. Like every couple of minutes. Clearly what's supposed to be happening is not happening.

The internet connection has a picky router. A lot of websites don't load or load very slowly. Sites which were never a problem with my previous Hanaro connection.

My uTorrent isn't happy. I get the Yellow icon about half the time showing that a port needs forwarded in the router. Annoyingly, it's fine and green half the time too. Really hard to figure out what could be wrong or what to tell the LG engineer.......

It may take a few days for the system to settle down. We'll get the LG guys to come out and fix it until we're happy with it.

Anyway. Point is, I don't think LG Powercomm is a solid, works-out-of-the-box, system. Seems really buggy.

Well, it turns out that the internet is the same for LG Xpeed Lite and Prime.

The reason its called "Prime" is because it is a 3 year contract, hence the discounted rate for said contract.

It looks like I'll be going with KT Megapass and MegaTV. Its a little more expensive than LG, but their customer support is in English, they are foreigner friendly, and their service is pretty good.
