| So, I am in the process of getting my ARC (alien registration card). I have been in the country for 3 weeks on my current E2 visa. On the health check for some reason, they forgot to include the results of my TB test so when I went to immigration I could not submit my paperwork. Now my boss has mentioned to me they might have to cancel my contract because I did not submit my ARC to admin. at my school. I think he and the others at my place of employment are ignorant of the imm. laws. Anyways, on the immigration website it says you have 90 days to register (arc). What's your take on the situation? Thanks for the responses. |

Although you have 90 days to get your ARC and register with Immigration, this is for all foreigners coming to Korea. It is not a rule specifically for E2 visa English teachers.
You also need to submit a copy of your ARC and other documents to your local education office within 10 days of your first day of teaching. Thus, you really only have this shorter time window to get your ARC. There are possible fines for your school if you are late. |

Tell them you need your ARC first to do anything.... talking about cancelling contracts is odd, just..you need your ARC. Tell them you need it. |

| I think they want to fire you and get away with it. To claim that it's been 3 weeks and they want to cancel the contract is ridiculous. And hagwons usually claim something ridiculous when they fire someone. |

It takes ten days to get the ARC after applying for it so you would have to apply on your first day. Most people don't do that. |

Depends on where you live.
Teachers at our school apply during their first week and get their ARC within 2 business days. The one occasion when the teacher filed on the 8th day, and then Immigration lost part of the application, Immigration faxed a copy of the ARC directly to the Education office just before 5pm on the 10th day, so it wouldn't be late.
If I remember right, the 10 days you have to file with the Education office is 10 business days.
And one thing we all have to remember about Korea:
Every Immigration office, every province, and often the individual workers in these offices have their own variations of the rules. |
