With the paid return flight the schools give you...
can you take off after your contract for a month or so.. in say,.. SE asia, and then return to Korea to get your flight back home?
do they allow this?
so like, work 12 months, finish contract, go play, go back, fly home for free?..
is this possible?
and can you find a storage place for your junk while your away?
I am thinking about Korea, and every little perk helps to make up for a crappy won/dollar exchange... |

The answer is no. Sure you can go somewhere after you finish..but the trip is for your home country within 10 days of finishing your contract...extensions are given if you go to immi and show your ticket out. One ticket to one place within the ten days...Storage is available in Korea. However, the above applies regarding your ticket home. |

Hi There.
You would need to negotiate to get funds with your school rather than an airfare.
Not sure if any will do this nowadays. In any case a two way airfare may be needed initially for a visa causing this to be a headache, for you to get funds and for the school to give them. It is not unheard of for a school, even so.
You could plan for an extra month and get the airfare for extra time, but there is a glitch. Travel agents have always told me the maximum time for a two way ticket is one year. Why not give me only strictly enough time to work? If you were willing to just cut your losses on one way of your fare, you could hand in the immigration card on your way out to another destination of your choice and then come in on a tourist visa. |

My hagwon offered me this several years ago. For simplicity I ended up letting him buy my ticket to Thailand and getting my own ticket from there. They were about the same price. |

Depends entirely on your school from the sound of it. Really there's no reason you shouldn't be able to do it unless your school is just being difficult.
I did it last year. My former boss has done it for other teachers as well. He also used his travel agent to get me a pretty good price on a flight to Hong Kong.
So yeah, I took off for about a month, came back on a tourist visa and flew out with my ticket home paid for by my school.
As for storage, I just left a few bags at my friend's place. You can't have that much to store anyway if you're going home, can you? |

If you are on good terms with your boss, he/she should have no problems just giving you cash.
If your boss is a dick, buy a ticket, show the receipt, get reimbursed, get a refund. |
