Anyone ever take Korean classes at either place? Any information would be appreciated, thanks! |

i did a semester of morning classes at kyung hee in suwon and worked at a hagwon in the afternoons. it was ok, the classes were fine, but man i was tired going to 4 hours of classes in the morning and then working 6-8 hours at night!
the main problem for me was that all of the other students were full time students, so they actually had time to study after class. whenever i'd get home, i'd eat dinner and fall asleep. plus being too damn tired or sick and skipping a class meant skipping 4 hours of lessons, so it was easy to fall behind and never catch up. i read the textbook, but many test questions covered material not in the textbook. plus the questions used vocabulary that we hadn't studied - how the hell do they expect me to answer them?
my overall impression was mixed. i felt like i had learned something, but i left the class feeling really uninspired to continue studying. working hard trying to come to class every day but being totally bewildered on a final exam worth 90% of my final mark was not encouraging. plus they never explained the results to me or why answer A was correct. i didn't sign up for a second semester, if that means anything. |

Thanks for the input. Yeah I agree, I'm a little bit concerned with the 4 hours/5 days full-time status, that it might be a bit overbearing... have you heard of anything that is not as strenuous... perhaps 3 days a week?
What level were you at? Unfortunately for me, I would be at beginner, I've just studied on my own... but need a class format to finally get the ball rolling. |

the problem i found was that i either had to do 20 hours per week at a uni or 2 hours per week at the Y. there really isn't anything in between to suit a working person in suwon. i started at a level slightly higher than noob status (i could read and understand basic phrases) and ended up at a level slightly higher than that. |

problem with KyungHee is its so Grammar orientated!
you will spend 10 weeks learning all this proper grammar and coming away with maybe memorizing a few sentences! they really burn through it quick! korean Palli Palli style..
once you enter week 3 you have already forgotten what you learned two days ago! your class will be full of chinese kids who have already been studying korean for the past 1 or 2 years, and their grammar is good, but their speaking sucks.. but kyunghee is all about grammar so they fly through... |
