i was wondering if it was possible to get a university job while taking language classes at that university..? has anyone had any experience? would it be too difficult to teach English and learn Korean at the same time? has the recession effected the job market for English teachers in Korea? What would the expected pay be for a newbie?....all suggestions and comments welcome! Thanks in advance !! Very Happy

It's possible to get a job in a university as a newbie (I know a handful of people off of the top of my head who have done it), but not easy. As far as studying and teaching at the same time go, I'm doing it now -- I take Korean classes from 9 to 1 every day (except Thursday when I have to duck out early), teach in the afternoons, and grade and prep in the evenings -- it makes for some long days, but it's doable.

It happened at my university last year. Just after I finished the the Korean program, another American guy began studying there, and within 6 months he had a job teaching English at the university.

Define newbie. Do you mean new to Korea and teaching, or new to teaching university?

University pay depends far more on where you work than your qualifications. I know two people working at unis... similar locations, similar positions, exact same work history and education... 500k won/month difference in pay.
