I'm going camping soon and I am wondering if I really need an
expensive Ipod dock. Can't I just use battery powered computer
speakers? Cheaper, bigger. Why not? |

Sure you can use any amplified speaker system if you have a standard headphones jack wire going to the speakers. Same as with the Walkmans we used to jam out with. Too bad modern headphones don't let you splice the wire to hardwire the jack to another source such as a stereo or other amplified speakers. I tried to splice several cheap ear bud sets and the wires are no longer insulated and splicable like they were in the Walkman era. Doesn't work. You gotta have a cable with a standard headphone jack that plugs into your speakers.
My Ipod dock speaker came with a 6 inch cable with male plugs on each end like standard headphone plugs to be able to use the Ipod dock speaker with a diskman or walkman or notebook computer. |

Homeplus is still selling these neon TDK speakers (green and orange) that look godawful but sound pretty good for things the width of a deck of playing cards. I think they're about 25,000 won, but they're magnetized and have a USB cable to plug into your computer.
When you're using them externally, you need 4 AAA batterys for their powerpack, but it lasts a good while. |
