Sanbon is the newer area of Gunpo. Generally it's a nice area, plenty of foreigners, a few nice foreign restaurants, bars, etc. lots of buses and trains to get to seoul, and generally fairly well organized.
Your experience there will depend more on you job than the actual location.
I'd say as far as living in 'the city' goes, it'd be one of the better places in Korea.
