I'm nearing the end of my contract in korea and looking into future prospects. i've been trying to research philippines but coming up with mixed oppinions and suggestions. I'm 22 female, currently in my first teaching position and gagging for a better experience than what i've had in the land of korea...
can anyone tell me the chances i have at finding a decent job in the philippines and whether or not it's worth it? I'd also love to work by the coast and not get stuck in a cruddy city in the middle of nowhere again. Is anyone currently in the philippines now and can give me advice on where to look, salary, job conditions, and so on?? any help would be greatly appreciated, or suggestions on any place that might be suited to a fun loving, hard working english girl like myself (i've spent the best part of a year with 0 friends, a boss and coworkers that won't speak to me, the future is bright i'm hoping!)

What kind of job are you looking for? Don't they already speak English in the Philippines?
Maybe you could be a TEOFL trainer or something like that, but I think they would prefer a North American accent over a British one, considering the country was kind of a colony of the U.S. at one point in history.
Again, I might be wrong, but isn't English one of the official languages of the Philippines?? |

Yes, it's kind of official, in so far as there can be anything like an official language in a place with over 200 languages. Otherwise, it's Tagalog, or, more appropriately Taglish.
And the Philippines wasn't kind of a colony. It was a colony, any way you cut the definition of colonialism.
OP, I love the place but the pay is going to suck and chances are you're going to end up teaching Koreans there (who are the lowest type of expat).
Why don't you try Japan? Something like one of those 3-month gigs and decide if it's for you. |
